      Stars galore at Gurgaon International open chess

      Gurgaon, Jan 20 (PTI) Ukrainian Grandmaster Alexander Areshchenko has been seeded at the top at Gurgaon International Open Grandmaster’s chess tournament which starts at Suncity World School tomorrow.

      More than 250 players from 15 countries will vie for top honours in a strong field which will have 16 Grandmasters and 26 International Masters.

      Another Ukrainian Grandmaster Yuiry Kuzubov has been seeded second.

      Russian GM Mikhail Ulibin and Kazakh GM Petr Kostenko, who had performed creditably in the just concluded Parsvnath International in New Delhi, are also in the fray.

      The Indian challenge will be spearheaded by former national champion Abhijit Kute and veteran GM Praveen Thipsay.

      The winner will pocket Rs two lakh out of a total tournament prize purse of Rs 10 lakh.

      Participating Grandmasters: Abhijeet Kunte (IND), Pravin Thipsay (IND), Magesh Chandran (IND), Niaz Murshed (BAN), Yuri Solodovnichenko (UKR), Vul Arkadiy (RUS), Saidali Yuldashev (UZB), Safin Shukrat (UZB), Mikhail Ulybin (RUS), Evgeny Gleyzerov (RUS), Neelotpal Das (IND), Alexander Areshchenko (UKR), Yuriy Kuzubov (UKR), Ismagambetov Anuar (KAZ), Ibrayev Nurlan (KAZ), Petr Kostenko (KAZ).

        Just FIY, 1 lakh is hundred thousand. Also roughly US$1 = 45-50 Indian Rupee
