LINDSBORG — Hannah Purdy, a seventh-grader from Oxford, won the Kansas Girls’ Chess Championship Saturday in Lindsborg.

The championship tournament drew 15 of the top female chess players from throughout Kansas.

Hannah will represent Kansas at the Susan Polgar National Invitational Girls’ Championship in Lubbock, Texas, later this year.

Grandmaster Susan Polgar is a three-time Women’s World Chess Champion. Hannah is a member of the Purdy Home School Chess Club, which won the state high school chess team championship.

Hannah’s older brother, Chris, is the 2009 Kansas State High School Chess Champion. Another older brother, Gabriel Purdy, will represent Kansas in the Denker Tournament of High School Champions from Aug. 1 to 4 in Indianapolis.

Karpov Chess School plans two summer chess camps in July with Grandmaster Var Akobian as the lead instructor. Akobian is ranked in the top 10 of chess players in the United States.
