      Happy Cinco de Mayo

      Cinco de Mayo, Mexico

The holiday commemorates an initial victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín over French forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The date is observed in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.

A common misconception in the United States is that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico’s Independence Day; Mexico’s Independence Day is actually September 16 (dieciséis de septiembre in Spanish), which is the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.

The other reason why it is celebrated in the USA is because General Ignacio Zaragoza, who beat the French was born in what is now Texas.

In Mexico, where I live, its a national holiday with a huge parade; however 5 de Mayo in Mexico ranks as the 3rd most important national holiday. The first two are September 16th (Mexican Independance) or November 20th (Mexican Revolution).

Susan, gracias por mencionar este dia en tu blog.

        El profesor,

Be careful about Sam Sloan. He’s a convicted felon for kidnapping. He also bragged about having sexual relations with girls under 16. Be careful with your daughter. GM Polgar also spoke out against this felon.

You will ruin your daughter’s reputation by just corresponding with him. Be smart.

i think if im not wrong, the celebration starts the 15th of sept. with the “grito de dolores” at midnight and on the 16th with a huge hang over, theres a parade (llike january´s usa), to conmemorate the independence day,
1810 started and ended on 1821.
        bye, jb.
