9 days ago, I created the above poll. 45% of you thought that Magnus would break 2800 by the end of 2009. Magnus’ rating after Nanjing will be 2801. He is the youngest player by far to break 2800.

You can’t vote for more than one alternative, and they are not mutually exclusive. A suggestion to make it better is to either make the alternatives exclusive (giving all logical alternatives), or enabling them to be chosen together (or not to choose any alternative at all).

Has anything ever plummeted in value, and become so instantly meaningless, as the Nobel Peace Prize did today? I would compare it to the baseball home run record, but it’s really not even close. Nobel is like a currency that just hit zero overnight and will stay there a loooooong time.

Magnus’s state of prowess depends solely on whether Kasparov advises him or not. This will not last forever, as Gary is considering returning to chess as an arbiter. That way he will get access to many countries he has never been to.
how about none of the above.. is that question about him beating rybka a real question or a joke…. theres no way he’ll ever come close to beating a machine like rybka.. kasparov in his prime could barely stay even with a machine 800 elo points below rybka. anand in his prime got thrashed by a machine 1000 points below rybka.. lets be serious with our questions..
Why should it be a joke?Kasparov played horrible against Deep Blue,and we all remember Kramniks mate in one blunder in his match in a clear draw position.Carlsen would moat likely in a match of say 10 rounds,but would he get some draws?Hell yes!Maybe even get a win in a game!
How about we let the young man settle himself before we drown him in our ridiculous expectations. You wonder how these guys go crazy.

But I’d say he will break Kasparov’s rating record but not 2900.
He will not rule the chess world for 20 years as he will at some stage have the good sense to turn his remarkable mind to something more useful.
He will not beat RYBKA in a match of any significant length without a handicap.
