        1. Qh6 wins, right?

        e.g.,
        1. … Nxc2
        2. Nh5 Bf8
        3. Nf6+ Kh8
        4. Qxh7#

        or
        1. … Bd8 or 1. … Bd6
        2. Bxh7+ Kh8
        3. Nh5 Rg8
        4. Bg6#

        or
        1. … f5
        2. Nh5 Bf8
        3. Nf6+ Kh8
        4. Qxh7#

I know I’m missing something because Susan wouldn’t issue a big challenge for this line. Where is the hole in my analysis?

        1. Qh6
with the idea after 1… Nxc2 to continue with
        2. Nh5

Looks like Black has no defense against such a brute attack.

Same knight to h5 plan works also with 1.-f5 or 1.-Bd6. Is there anything else worth a thought?

I’d opt for Qh6 with threats of Qxh7#

        1) Qh6 Nxc2
        2) Nh5 Bf8
        3) Nxf6+ Kh8
        4) Qxh7+ mate

        or

        1) Qh6 f5
        2) Nh5 Bf8
        3) Nf6+ Kh8
        4) Qxh7+ mate

When I tried solving screen direct, i failed.
Then I put the pieces otb and it came out right and it seemed easy too. that is if I did not miss something.
        Main line only is
        1. Qh6 Nxc2
        2. Nh5 Bf8
        3. Nxf6+ Kh8
        4. Qxh7#

Too slow… I was checking some lines, and now the solutions are there already…

One desperate attempt by black could be 1…Qxg3 (black starts with a rook up after all, and the bishop on c2 is still en prise).
Also interesting is to see what is wrong with 1.Qh6 f5 2.Nxf5? (my initial try) 🙂

        Kind regards,

        After 1.Qh6 f5 2.Nxf5? Bf8? white still wins with 3.Ne7! Bxe7 4.Qxh7 Kf8 5.Qh8

The right defense seems to be 2…Bf6! giving up a bishop, but making some space for the king and defending g7, after which black is still material up, and alive.

        Qh6 f5
        Nh5 Bf8
        Nf6+ Kh8
        Qxh7+

it would be nice to have g7 and h7to target plus no g pawn and all your pieces on the other side of the board. although this probaly would never happen against a good player…
