Indonesia Chess Open – Seven players share the lead after round 4

The top three board encounters were drawn in round 4 of the Indonesia Open 2012. GM Grigoryan – GM Bocharov, GM Gagunashvili – GM Ganguly, and GM Li Chao – GM Lu Shanglei shook hands for a draw, as a result no player is left with a perfect score.

Joining Dimitry Bocharov, Lu Shanglei, Surya Shekhar Ganguly, Avetik Grigorian, and Merab Gagunashvili on 3.5/4 are Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and Yu Yangyi, the only two players able to record wins from amongst the chasing pack.

Yu proved too strong for Hungary’s No 1 woman player Hoang Thanh Trang while Nguyen defeated IM Wang Chen.

Many of the per-tournament favorites are now also very much back in contention with 3/4, including top seed Ivan Sokolov and second seed Li Chao.

Local hope Susanto Megaranto is also in this mix with a solid performance to date as is another early favorite Jaan Ehlvest, while Viorel Iordachescu cannot be counted out. This group includes Xiu Deshun, Dao Thien Hai, John Paul Gomez, Boris Chatalbashev, and Marat Dzhumaev are also still very much to be reckoned with.

Of the none GMs, IM Oliver Dimakiling has also out his GM norm hopes back on track while FM Wei Yi will be looking for at least an IM norm.
