      Iordachescu and Maiorov share first place in Erice

      Italy, Sicily


      The 5th International Chess Festival Terre degli Elimi took place on 19-25th July 2014, in Erice, a historic town in the Province of Trapani, in Sicily, Italy.

      The event was a 9-round Swiss, organized by ASD “Amici della Scacchiera” di Erice.

      First place was shared by GM Viorel Iordachescu from Moldova and GM Nikita Maiorov from Belarus with 8/9 points each, a full point ahead of the nearest follower.

      Dutch player IM Twan Burg took the bronze with 7 points.

      The best woman WGM Maria Manakova finished 5th in the main tournament with 6 points, leaving many Grandmasters behind. She fulfilled an IM norm as well.
