Istanbul Olympiad Chess Tactic Chess tactic, Puzzle Solving White to move. Is this a win or draw? How should white proceed? Source: ChessToday.net Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
1.Bg6 ch Kxg6 (only move) 2.Qf5 ch Kh6 3.Qh5 ch mate 1-0 (ang galing ko!)
Bg6+
Bg6+ wins
1. Bg6+! blinks like a red light!!
1. … Kxg6 2. Qf5+ Kh6 3. Qh5#
A good one.
Bg6+ Kf6
Qf5 mate
Bg6+ Kxg6
Qf5+ Kh6
Qh5 mate
nice one. Pulling the king to h file and mate.
A win! 1. Bg5+ Kxg6 (if 1. … Kf6 then 2. Qf5#) 2. Qf5+ Kh6 3. Qh5#
White forces mate in three along the light squares.
1. Bg6+ Kxg6
2. Qf5+ Kh6
3. Qh5#
Bg6
I’m not doing the solution.. its too easy..
Win or draw? I suppose it’s a draw, unless White finds:
1. Bg6+ Kxg6 2. Qf5+ Kh6 3. Qh5#
(lopsided grin)
Bg6 and white wins.
Bg6 and white wins.
White has an immediate knockout with 1. Bg6+, when the Black King walks the plank.
1.Bg6 + Kxg6
2.Qf5+ Kh6
3.Qh5#
I first proceeded with exchanging the Queens since the pawn position is better. In a game I would have definitely missed the neat mate in 3
1.Bg6+ Kxg6
(1…Kf6 2.Qf5#)
2.Qf5+ Kh6
3.Qh5#
It’s a mate in 3:
1. Bg6+ Kxg6 (1. .. Kf6 2. Qf5#)
2. Qf5+ Kh6
3. Qh5#
This combination came to me right away (seeing that 1. Qf5 had to be wrong, bishop should be “sendt ahead of queen”, and that black’s own bishop must be in the way for him):
1. Bg6+! Kxg6 (1. … Kf6 2. Qf5#)
2. Qf5+ Kh6
3. Qh5#
Good that some puzzles are easy:-)
