It’s official: Magnus hits new high

      Chess Ratings, FIDE

It’s official! Magnus hits a new high on the July 2010 FIDE rating list. This is the 2nd highest rating in chess history, only behind Kasparov at 2851. It’s also official that Onischuk and Nielsen crossed the magical 2700 mark! Fabiano is closing in at 2697.

On the women’s side, both Koneru and Hou lost points but still maintained the #2 and #3 ranking. WWC Kosteniuk is out of the top 10 once again. T. Kosintseva leaped from #7 to #4 thanks to her brilliant Women’s Grand Prix performance in Nalchik.

The rating gap between #1 and #2 is larger than any other rating difference for consecutive ranks on that list.

Magnus is going to be the chess standard for the 21st Century. I am waiting for the next chess scandal to take place where his opponents use chess computers medically implanted in questionable places to telegraph moves.

Chess needs x-ray machines and metal detectors!

The Bazra Kings Tournament finished on 25th June yet according to FIDE’s regulations they should not have rated any event that finished after the 24th June.

It looks like Carslen’s rating should have remained at 2813 for the July list.
