      Arrested, Garry Kasparov, Moscow

      Kasparov arrested at Moscow rally
      Published: Dec. 14, 2008 at 11:08 AM

MOSCOW, Dec. 14 (UPI) — Former chess champion Garry Kasparov was among 90 people arrested Sunday during an unsanctioned political rally in Moscow, police said.

Kasparov and other critics of Russia’s current leadership were arrested for “attempts of hooligan and illegal actions, said Viktor Biryukov, a spokesman for the Moscow police.

The protesters were arrested as they approached Trifainaya Square in Central Moscow, CNN reported. In addition to Kasparov, Eduard Limonov, founder of the opposition coalition called The Other Russia, was also arrested.

Kasparov, who leads the United Civil Front Party, and Limonov want to “peacefully dismantle” what they say is the illegitimate rule of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Interfax said.

Russia has been put on the “edge of catastrophe” by the failing economy and Medvedev and Putin’s leadership, Kasparov said.

it now clear Kasparov’s new carrer choice has been not only unsuccessful but somewhat unwise.

Seems becoming a chess god takes a great mental cost, and Kasparov now has some type of mental problem not unlike fischer eg attacking home country and upseting very powerful people.

This type of action did not go well for Bobby Fischer and will not go well for Kasparov as well.

I hope Kasparov can recover and return to chess

That term “unsanctioned” is a laugh in the context of Putin’s regime. The government hopes people will think Kasparov was too lazy or sloppy to fill out a simple gov form.

Kasparov’s purported economic comments are dubious.

Leave Kasparov alone! He deserves do do whatever f… he wants, and what he does now is far more important than playing chess. Perhaps he wont be a leading figure in the post-medveded/Puti era. but his contribution will be important.

Soon Kasparov may be able to make a comeback as 1st board on Team Gulag – if he isn’t careful…

You can’t start a fire without a spark.

Kasparov is fighting for what he thinks is right. It is an uphill battle for him….but just like in the chessboard….he is not willing to give up the fight to defend what he believes is a just cause.

To all of you that are writting in this blog critizicing him and calling him crazy from the comfort of your home…..when was the last time YOU fought for anything?? When was the last time you left the comfort of your home to defend what you beleive is a just cause??

        Granada – 1982
        Gulf War 1 – 1990-1991
        Gulf War 2 – 1995-1997

Americans have been doing this for the whole world since after WW2.

It is sad that Garry Kasparov’s selfless effort to bring awareness to the fact that dictatorship has been reinstated in Russia is met with ridicule and defamation of character, even outside of Russia.

Now that the oil money (the main reason the Russian people think Putin is a good leader) are not flowing as generously as they have gotten used to, perhaps the Russian people will begin to realise what is going on – although it may already be too late. Calling Russia a democracy is an insult to the concept.

You may or may not agree with Kasparov’s politics, but you simply cannot accuse him of opportunism when he could just be living in comfort not lifting a finger for the rest of his life, rather than risking his life on a daily basis.

I have never had much cared for Kasparov’s personality when he was a chessplayer, but what he is doing now deserves the utmost respect from anyone who supports democracy and liberty.

Nope. The decision for you to get off your couch and go to each of these wars was MADE FOR YOU. You were there because you you were sent there to follow orders and you had no saying in hte matter. Most probably you were there totally clueless of the actual reasons why you were even there. The fact that you don’t even acknowledge what Garry is trying to do is evidence enough that you don’t even understand why you were even sent to each of the wars you mention.

Kasparov is trying to start a movement to turn an established system in its heels. The fact that you are here calling him a clown, even after you served in each of those wars….make you an even bigger clown than he could ever be.

Wow! I never knew chess players had the stones to insult US combat veterans! Wow! This makes chess players look like ridiculous reactionaries! Single minded simpletons at best.

Who does Kasparov think he is? If he wants change he must play the political game and join the Duma.

He is using chess rules to play his politics, but the Russians are playing Roulette.

Russia needs another revolution, but Garry is not the rallying point, the world economic crash and mass hunger will be, though.

Garry is out of touch with his fellow countrymen. He gets to eat and travel anytime he wants, while his countrymen starve. He is another spoiled rich chess player bored with his accomplishments and has desire for more fame. He will get his fame. I have no doubts about that.

Just because someone was ordered to serve at a war, and he eventually he served…..doesn’t provide this person the right to try to get his point accross through insults. And definitely doesn’t mean tehy will always be right. Actually, it is even concerning that someone who apparently shows 0 tolerance (called Garry a clown immediately without even understanding what he is fighting for) was actually fighting in a war. No wonder we are reading of so many abuses taking place in the front lines and the military prisons. Is it so difficult to get your point accross without a weapon in your hands???? Or maybe that is the only way you would know how to.

So, US combat veteran or not….maybe you want to read and educate yourself before criticizing other people who are trying to get their points accross.

Garry is a clown for trying to piss out a forest fire. Russia needs revolution, not E4.

Chess players love fascists and socialist. As long as chess is allowed, who cares who is in charge and who is dying in gas chambers?

Garry is like this. His demonstrations are hopeless and impotent because the other Soviet Sheep want their share of the bread line, not true freedom.

Russia is the ultimate welfare state. It is willing to support chess at the cost of personal freedoms. This is why Garry is losing his battle. He can learn a thing or 2 from the Chechens.
