      Kasparov vs Ilyumzhinov in 2014?

      FIDE, Garry Kasparov, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov

      Dear colleagues,

Garry Kasparov has confirmed to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that he is firmly committed to push FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov out of office. He said he is likely running himself for Presidency at the next FIDE elections held in Tromsö, Norway, in August 2014, or otherwise, that he will support another candidate. He cites as his main motive the damage done to chess by Ilyumzhinov´s visits to dictators Saddam Hussein, Muammar al Gaddafi and, most recently in
late April, to Bashar al Assad.

Having supported Bessel Kok in 2006 and, more strongly, Anatoly Karpov in 2010, Kasparov claims to have learned and is already working hard on a long-term campaign. He considers his worldwide efforts to bring chess into schools as a major part of his strategy and as a lead for
FIDE to not just focus on chess as a sport but also to establish chess in the education system.

The story is in today´s (June 14) print edition, but not online (yet).

      Thank you for taking note.

      Best,
      Stefan Löffler

Is this a good idea? Do you think he can win? And will he do a better job?

Of course he will. He’ll put all his billionaire friends together and create world championships for $100 million. Of course he will do a better job, when pigs fly.

the phrase “bull in a china shop” comes to mind. Look Kirsan may not be a great manager.. but Kasparov does not have a democratic demenour to stake claim. He is a dictator. He tried to unseat Putin. Failed. Now Kirsan. Another Fail.. What next Garry.. IMF president..

Mr. Kasparov, What is your next move? You may be good at chess but in politics, your moves are not coming right. People know that you are only interested in power and money. How are you going to wipe out your image? So tell me what is your next move Mr. Thug??

If Kasparov becomes IMF president, he will certainly become rich and his cronies will be rich too. That is for sure.

on becoming WC kasparov bellowed ” the title in my hands will kill FIDE”. Unless he is living in another planet kasparov now knows that FIDE is very much alive and he does not have his title anymore..BTW, when i have to explain my kid what a bad loser is, you come to my find first.

A least Kasparov is doing something. His chess in schools program is actually going somewhere, different to lyumzhinov’s program that is a hollow promise with the intention to make money for the FIDE koffers rather than to spread the game.
