Latin American’s Do NOT want to be conquered

Chess election, FIDE, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, Makropolous

Disclaimer: As a matter of fairness, I will publish articles, letters, and information from both parties when I receive them.

Georgios Makropoulos letter to Chessbase regarding the Honduran Chess Federation’s support of Kirsan (see letter below). The Honduran Chess Federation then signed a letter of support to Karpov, while Kasparov visited Nicaragua.

The Karpov campaign made the announcement of this endorsement under the title:

      “Kasparov Conquers Latin America.” ???

With 12 Latin American Chess Federations supporting Kirsan so far, this seems a very arrogant title and just a creative play of words on the Karpov side.

Kirsan’s decision to also include a Latin American, Beatriz Marinello, who is South American from Chile, residing in the United States in his ticket shows real support, and not just empty promises.

Latin American’s Do NOT want to be conquered

Latin American’s do not wish to be conquered, they wish to be part of a team who considers them equals. “One World. One Vision”.

      Dear Frederic,

As you know from the previous elections of FIDE, the team of Kirsan Ilyumzhinov never announces the open support of a federation without having the relevant official document which confirms it.

Contrary to our opponents’ practice, we do not even mention in our interviews or statements countries from which we do not have their written support. We therefore attach the support letter to Kirsan Ilyumzhinov from
the Honduras Chess Federation in spanish (with an english translation as well).

The letter is officially signed by the President of the Federation Mr Denis Eugenio Diaz Zelaya.

At the same time, we also attach the letter of the Tajikistan Chess Federation in which it is emphatically clarified that Anatoly Karpov wrongly stated that they support him.

Best regards and thank you beforehand for publishing our reply,

      Georgios Makropoulos

Below is the translation of the letter of support received from Honduras and the English translation.

      Tegucigalpa M.D.C. May 22, 2010

      Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov
      President, World Chess Federation
      FIDE

Greetings from the Executive Committee of the National Chess Federation of Honduras (FENAH). Our Federation has been nominated to organize the 2.3c Subzonal, which will be held from August 20-27, 2010. At this event, we will have the honor to receive the best Central American players.

Furthermore, the main reason for this letter is to communicate to you that the Honduran Federation (FENAH) has decided to support you 100% in your reelection for the position of FIDE President. Our decision is based on your trajectory and unconditional support provided to World Chess, youth and children.

      Attentively,

      Ing. Denis E Diaz
      President of FENAH

A clear example of why karpov will lose. He doesn’t understand, nor does his ridiculous team of Kasparov and Short, of how to play the game.

Obviously with the announcement of the ECU ticket you see the Short one is on that as well. Completely unqualified to be on any chess ticket, just like Karpov and Conn.

Any ‘triumphant’ announcement needs to be seen plainly as it is. That is Karpov is ‘on the road’, quite legitimately, as part of his campaign – supported by Kasparov. What is wrong with that? And what is wrong with triumphant announcements?

Meanwhile the moaners and detractors (the supporters of Kirsan) sit at home and look to their letters. At least Karpov is out there actually going ‘around the world’ meeting people on the streets! What better demonstration of Gens Una Sumus!

These critical postings are not allowing Karpov a fair and democratic chance of campaigning, and yet Ilhumzhinov “claims” he wants a fair and democratic election process. Clearly he and his ticket do not ‘really’ want this!

What a twisting of the facts!

Kasparov and the Reconquista of Central America.

¡Viene un Genio! That was just one of the modest headlines that ran before Garry Kasparov’s visit to Nicaragua last weekend.

This was not Karpov’s headline at all.

As World Champion, who battles at the chess board, you should expect these kind of ‘dramatic’ headlines. What it does NOT mean is that Karpov has any intention of ‘ruling over’ Nicaragua or the rest of South America if he became President.

Kirsan’s ticket are again deliberatly misleading what was reported in the press!
