Letter by Ali Nihat Yazici to Karpov

Ali Nihat Yazici, Anatoly Karpov, Chess election, FIDE, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov

Disclaimer: As a matter of fairness, I would be happy to publish articles, letters, information, or anything else former World Champion Anatoly Karpov or his camp would like the chess community to know. I have published everything I received from both sides.

My goal since I started this website in May 2005 is to bring you updated, timely, fair and objective chess daily news and information from around the globe. I feel that it is very important to be fair and balance. A good open debate / discussion is good for chess. Our chess community deserves the best leadership to capitalize on the popularity of chess around the world.

The President of Turkish Chess Federation, Ali Nihat YAZICI, has sent an open letter to FIDE Presidential Campaign Anatoly Karpov.

      Dear Mr. Anatoly Karpov,
Ex World Champion and candidate for 2010 FIDE President Post,

      Dear Sir,

As I told you personally in Rijeka, at breakfast, we all respect you as a World Champion, as chess lovers. I wish you very good luck (you need a lot…, and it does not work in this business) for the upcoming FIDE elections.

I have read your letter, and saw that again either you do not read all these releases in the chess media (very bad for a candidate) or your words do not represent what is the truth.

Mr. Karpov, in your letter you mention that your opponent did not get any support letter from a voting federation. You missed a federation, my federation, the Turkish Chess Federation. I would like to understand if you do not care about that, or if your team (if there is one) does not inform you about that. I attach this link for you to see it.

On the other hand, sure we will vote for the best candidate we believe, for the sake of chess. But I cannot see in your letter anything you want to do except attack our current President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

May I ask you kindly to be on the level of the respect you desire from all your fans, stop this negative campaign and tell us clearly what you want to do. Please do not tell us your allegations (I was insulted by you accusation that I was a “corrupt FIDE management member” – that is still on your website), it is shame to hear such as incredible untruth stories from such as legend. We still await a strong apology from you as a legend, this attitude is clearly not fair play.

Mr. Karpov, do not tell me please, like you said in the Sofia Press Conference, as answer you do not want to go to details. In your campaign website you say that the FIDE Management is corrupt.

GIVE US A FACT HOW WE ARE CORRUPT!!

I do not believe that a FIDE presidential candidate should attack everyone around the world with unreal accusations, You say that you will unite the world, but look what you have been doing in your campaign by accusing people with such as allegations.

And after the election when we shake each other hands (I hope you will be able to do it) you will understand those miscalculations. The FIDE Management has never in the history been as good as it is now, and believe me, when we win, it will be even better.

      Best regards,
      Ali Nihat YAZICI
      President of Turkish Chess Federation
      Vice President of FIDE

If Mr. Karpov can’t back up what he says then he should drop out.

This is my open letter. Dear Mr Karpov, you probably have the support of most of the chess world. Kirsan has done his thing…chess and Fide are not in a good way. Everyone knows this…I hate it when chess Federations argue about stupid things..I live in Cananda and we have the same thing herelllnot to mention our neighbours south of the border….Mr Karpov I only have one thing to say to you…I know you don’t need the job..I also know you can bring prestige back to the world title…Go kick some ass!!

Susan, I’m disappointed to see that you have been posting so much from Ilyumzhinov’s camp without giving the same amount of coverage to Karpov’s point of view. As a reputed chess personality, shouldn’t you cast a more unbiased image for all of us fans who follow this blog?

It is truely sickening to read (almost all of) what Ilyumzhinov and his henchman are saying.

I am not a huge fan of Karpov as FIDE president but it is definitely much better than what the world of chess has at the moment.

It is evident that the higher up you are in the chess pyramid, the lower down you are, in ability, to run an organisation. Genius is a narrowly focused field. Imagine that tortured chess genius Bobby F running anything at all! The 2 K’s seem to dumb! to know this!

Anon 2:09, did you read the disclaimer by Susan? If the Karpov people don’t care to let the chess community know about their position or goals, what do you expect Ms. Polgar to do? Are they that incompetent? It seems that the Karpov people are incompetent and unorganized.

Reply by the French Chess Federation
The President of the French Chess Federation, Jean-Claude Moingt, has replied to Ali Nihat Yazici, confirming that his Federation is “one hundred percent backing Anatoli Karpov.” Moingt continues:

When Ali Yazici was supporting Bessel Kok for the 2006 FIDE elections in Torino, he was not so kind towards Kirsan and the FIDE Management… We do not want to reproduce here the words that have been pronounced at this moment, neither do we wish to spend time on those that have been written. We will only focus on the obvious switch in Ali’s assessment of the positions inside FIDE, and his ability to have a different look on people, depending on circumstances…

As far as we are concerned, our opinion has not changed, and we do believe that Anatoli Karpov is the one who can lead a team to a successful change for chess. And, as Winston Churchill used to say: “You do not solve problems with people who have created them.”

Who cares about the French Chess Association? Or the French for that matter…
