      Levon Aronian, Super Talent

Super GM Aronian has been in the top 10 of the world since 2005. He has been as high as #3. He has won a number of big tournaments as well as Olympic Gold. In spite of his success, his name is not often mention when the topic of future world champions comes up. How would you describe his style and how would you rate his chances of becoming a World Champion?

He’ll have to get in quick.

Already since their Candidates match last year, Aronian has been barely superior to Carlsen, if at all.

To be a champion Aronian needs to become the favorite of the peanut gallery, which he is not. He also needs an army of cheerleaders like Topalov, Anand, Carlsen, Ivanchuk and Kramnik. In addition he needs a catchy nickname like Chucky, Pooky, Topa, Hoopla, Raja, Cujo, etc

According to a recent interview with Aronian on chessbase.com by “Aram Hajian”:

“Aronian’s style is difficult to describe. He lacks the opening preparation of most GM’s, and hence does not gain an advantage out of the opening with the White pieces. However, due to his advancement into the upper levels of chess, he admits he has become more familar with chess openings.

He’ll not be WCC. Kamsky will be the next one.

The days you had to be on top form for 3yrs to be WCC are gone. Aronian could be WC, the way Kramnik, Topalov and Anand have been.. by being the strongest once, at the right time. He’ll never be a Kasparov, Karpov or Fischer.

I like Aronian’s tactical play. Aronian is like a Tigran Petrosian that was trained by a real attacking player like Tolush or Spassky.

I vote Aronian’s nickname should be “Bulgy”. It was his bulge that threw Carlsen off his game.

Aronian is one of the current players that could be WC if its his turn- that is, if his in right form when it matters. The best ones are quite equakl these days with Anand and kramnik one head in front of Aronian, Topalov, Ivanchuk, Carlsen. But Aronian and carlsen havent reached their full strength yet. Aronian better reach that before carlsen turns 20, then I guess he will be level with K and A, or perhaps in front of them. Aronian is perhaps the most talented player together with carlsen (and K and A of course). I admire his tactical capabilities and his judgment of messy positions. In Melody Amber we see why he is up there. I think Aronian still can climb to the top. Anyway, he will be up there unless some singing chick from east make his life look like an ending with different coloured bishops (Spassky).

I agree with that, Kramnik is a gentleman; Levon isnt!
