Quang Liem continues to shine in 8th round of World Chess

(VOV) – The Vietnamese men’s chess team has advanced 11 places to 23rd position in the 2012 World Chess Olympiad in Turkey, with Le Quang Liem outclassing Turkish rival Grand Master Dragan Solak on September 6.

      • Women chess team remains its 7th place

In the 8th round, both Duc Hoa and Van Huy had draws, but fortunately their teammates’ wins were all they required to advance through.

On table No. 2, Truong Son trounced GM Baris Esen with a score of 3-1.

Quang Liem won on table No. 1 in the final minute against the Turkish GM to gain a victory for the national team.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese women’s team lost to the Indian team, dropping from 7th place to 16th.

In the ninth round, the men’s team will meet seed No. 11 Britain with GM Michael Adams being the strongest opponent.

The women’s team will next compete against Germany, which is seeded No. 9.
