      Long time Dumont Chess Club member passed away

      Dumont Chess Club, New Jersey

      Herman Drenth, 84 
      Thursday, August 1, 2013 Community News (Elmwood Park Edition)

      Elmwood Park – Herman Drenth, 84, died July 24. Born and raised in Paramus, he lived in Elmwood Park for 40 years. Prior to retiring, he was employed in insurance sales with Mutual of New York, formerly in Hackensack.

      He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps. He was a member and past-president for many years of both the Dumont Chess Club and the East Jersey Trout Unlimited, was active in conservation of the Ramapo River by both helping to clean the river as well as plant trees along the banks and loved fishing, fly-fishing and golf but one of his greatest pleasures was raising funds to provide chess sets to veteran hospitals, of which he helped donate many.

      Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Marilyn; and his stepson, Edward Lisi of Clifton. He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen; his brothers and sisters; his stepson, James Lisi; and a stepdaughter, Denise Rothwell. Funeral was July 29 with interment at Cresthaven Memorial Park, Clifton.
