      Mangalore: Inter-collegiate Chess Tournament at SAC Inaugurated

      Mangalore: Inter-collegiate Chess Tournament at SAC Inaugurated Pics: Dayanand Kukkaje Daijiworld Media Network- Mangalore (RS/SB) Mangalore, Sep 15: Three-day inter-collegiate chess tournament of Mangalore University level was inaugurated at St Aloysius College at Arrupe block here on Monday September 14.

      Fr Swebert D’Silva, principal, St Aloysius College inaugurated the tournament said that chess is a game that helps students’ intellectual growth. He called on students to develop interest in the game.

      Santhosh D’Souza, assistant physical director, Mangalore University said that chess is a game that needs brain power. Students’ involvement in chess results in increased concentration power.

      Derick Pinto and Prasanna Rao, administrators, Dericks Chess School were the guest of honour.

      The teams and individual players from around 40 colleges in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district are participating in this tournament.

      The tournament will conclude on Wednesday September 16. The tournament is conducted under the guidelines by Mangalore University.

      Physical directors Donnet D’Souza and Arun D’Souza, Student Union Sports secretaries Jane Michelle Monis and Desmond Antony were also present.
