      Chess sets on display

      A collection of rare and unusual chess sets from around the world will be on display from Dec. 26 to March 22 at the Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200 Woodward Ave. “Master Pieces: Chess Sets from the Dr. George and Vivian Dean Collection” includes more than two dozen sets ranging from the 16th to the 20th centuries from Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the U.S. Dean is a physician from the Detroit area.         A Passing Thought….
        Maybe the drug rules for chess could start by allowing any and all drugs, but also requiring players to declare (in advance) what drugs they are taking.

        Occasional unannounced drug testing could replace the constant retesting that currently occurs.
        The purpose of occasional testing would be to ensure that all required declarations are being made.

        Then after a few years, there might be a better quantity and quality of pertinent data with which to formulate a sensible policy for drug testing of chess players.
