        Black is threatening 1. … Qh1+ 2. Kg3 Rg1+ 3. Kf4 Qe4#, so it’s time for White to throw in a few checks ending in mate.

        The Black knight is doing double duty: protecting f8 against the Queen and Rook, and protecting f6 against the Knight, so:

        1. Rf8+ Nxf8 2. Nf6+ Kh8 3. Qxf8#
