Monday Chess Tactic Chess tactic, Puzzle Solving White to move. How should White proceed? 2r3k1/p2bppb1/1pN2np1/3n2Bp/1NBPq3/P5QP/5PP1/2R3K1 w – – 0 1 Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
1. Bxd5 Nxd5
2. Nxd5 (B or R)xc6
3. Nxe7+
looks like it wins the exchange.
Is there something better?
I don’t think it does any more, but I looked at 1.f3 Qe6 (…Qf5 loses a piece) 2.Bxd5 Nxd5 3.Nxd5 Rxc6 4.Nxe7+
1. Bxd5 Nxd5
2. Nxd5 (B or R)xc6
They’re not equivalent. Taking with the rook is much better.
3. Nxe7+
looks like it wins the exchange.
It wins the queen for a rook and a knight, not quite as good.
Is there something better?
Yes 🙂
1.f3 Qe6 (…Qf5 loses a piece)
1…Qf5 may lose a piece, but it doesn’t lose as badly as 1…Qe6 2.Nxd5 Nxd5 3.Bxd5 does.
2.Bxd5 Nxd5 3.Nxd5 Rxc6 4.Nxe7+
Black does better with 2…Bxc6, although he still loses.
1.f3 is the right idea.
I’m going for
1.f3 Qe6 (1…Qf5 2.Bde5 wins a piece since 2….NxB 3.Nxe7 forks the queen)
2.Nxd5! wins a piece since
A)2….NxN
3.BxN QxB
4.Nxe7+ forks the queen
b)2….Bxc6
3.Nxf6 + wins the queen.
Would it be unsporting to suggest that ‘Monday’ is actually ‘Tuesday’?
