The World Amateur Championship won by Mongolian players

The World Amateur Chess Championship 2011 has just finished in Kemer, Türkiye. It lasted since 1st till 11th of October 2011 and 67 players from 16 countries (Albania, Brazil, Colombia, Croatia, Egypt, France, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mongolia, Netherlands, Russia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Turkey and the United States) participated in the event.
The tournament was played in Swiss system with 9 rounds and the time control of the games is 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move one.
The 14-years old Sumiya Bilguun from Mongolia became the winner of World Amateur Championship with 7.5 points. Another player from Mongolia, Anu Bayar became the champion in women category with 5 points. Both of them will automatically get FM and WFM title.
The prize fund of the Championship was 10,000 euro and the champion took 2000 euro for the first place.

This event shows the utter incompetence of USCF. The Americans they sent finished 27th and 31st but they had been given the opportunity to send a USCF 2433 player who had no FIDE rating and who would have mopped up the event 9-0 and bring some renown to USCF but they chose to turn down the offer and opportunity presented to them
