The most intriguing match up is Reblevsky-Ponomariov. It’s the one that is most difficult to pick a winner. I can’t help but to think of this in terms of Rublevsky: if he’s on, he wins; if not, he loses.

I hope Rublevsky is on, because when he is he is a lot of fun to watch.

I have no second or third in that department.

        Other predictions:

        Aronian over Magnus
        Adams over Shirov
        Gelfand over Kasimdzhanov
        Kamsky over Bacrot
        Grischuk over Malakhov
        Ms. Polgar over Bareev
        Leko over Gurevich

I agree 100% with those predictions but am very much looking forward to aronian carlsen. Can the young maestro pull something special out of the bag?

        Aronian-Carlsen for sure

I think it will be a hard-fought battle and very hard to pick a winner. I’ll give Aronian the slightest edge though but it can go either way.

Shirov over Adams: very interesting and nice match that surely will produce nice attacking games. I predict Shirov will win in his current good form.

This would mean a possible Aronian-Shirov match. Again hard to predict. Shirov has better chances than most people may think and I think he may pull out the big surprise of the tournament.

        Ponomariov over Rublevsky

Grishuk over Malakhov. If Grishuk will be on form he may well advance to Mexico and I think he will be and beat Pono in the second round

Kasimdzhanov over Gelfand. I think Kasim will prove yet again that he is an awesome match player and emerge as the winner

Bacrot over Kamsky. I can’t see Kamsky winning although it would be nice to roll back the years.

I predict Kasimdzanov will beat Bacrot in the second round.

Polgar over Bareev, but beware Judit, Evgenij is playing better again and will be a hard nut to crack.

        Leko over Gurevich

so Polgar-Leko. Based on Leko’s current poor form I think Judit will win

so my four qualifiers for Mexico are:

        Shirov
        Grishuk
        Kasimdzanov
        Polgar
