Music, chess and martial arts to promote unity, strategy and non-violence

Hip Hop Chess, Lisa Suhay, Susan Polgar Foundation

Polgar Foundation Supports HHCF Norfolk Police Chess/Gracie Bullyproof Initiative

Many thanks to Susan Polgar and the Polgar Foundation for the generous donation of four easy+ clocks (Kramnik’s Choice) which will be used as part of the HHCF/Norfolk Police Chess Initiative and the new free 10-week summer camp for city children. This donation means that for the first time we will be able to introduce this vital part of play to the children.

Thanks also to the U.S. Chess Trust for supplying 15 tournament combo sets.

Unlike the Police Chess Initiative, which was geared to high school level to teach life strategies and chess only, this summer camp is geared to children ages 5-12, most of whom will gain their very first experience with chess, life strategies and martial arts for self-defense. It is a very ambitious pilot program, but if we volunteer together from all these very diverse strengths and backgrounds, we can pull it all off.

We can set the foundation for bringing this unique combination of skills to children in an area where, last week, a student fired a gun in a public school so he could show the bullies how tough he really is. In this same area, young girls have talked of ending their own lives rather than face another day at the hands of bullies at school.

Our children are smarter and braver than that, they only need our help to get them on board with strategies for applying the psychological, social and in extreme situations when they are in danger, the physical leverage to succeed.

I love the idea of using martial arts. Peace through giving a broken neck. Yeah!

        sounds cool…
the combination of martial arts & chess should be more than enough to keep the kids busy…also increasing thier self-esteem & confidence…also respect from bullies!
