Well, Susan, I (for one) have to thank you for your Picture-Blog site, for, as they say, “A picture IS worth a thousand words.” My personal favourite is the one of you holding the World Chess Cup (beauty and brains are surely an unbeatable combo! What inroads you’ve made with respect to dispelling the notion that only geeks/nerds play chess).
A close second, to my mind, is the first of you and Paul Newman; great PR, you with such movie stars as him, Michael Douglas, and Arnold; to say nothing of the Parade-Magazine cover, on which you appear with the likes of Condoleezza Rice, Sandra Day O’Connor, and Stephen Hawking! It’s about time that chess became more visible (i.e. stopped being a self-contained entity), since gaining new players and sponsors is paramount to its future growth and success.
Also, seeing you with Tal and Benko stirs up memories for me that I’d thought were long dead and buried (please do forgive my schmaltz!), so I thank you for these photos, especially (also for those of Sofia and Judit).
And, though I don’t recognize any of the persons in your simul shots, it’s fun to imagine what everyone’s thinking about from the looks on their faces. As an artist, I’m assuredly a “people watcher.”
Last, let me say I’ve missed seeing as many photos of you as I once had on this site (I feared you may have been dismayed by the comments of that coward who, hiding behind his cloak of anonymity, spouted that garbage about “narcissism”). I’m sure I’m not the “Lone Ranger” when I say the more pictures–the better!
