      After the success of 2008 Pearl Spring Chess Tournament Nanjing, China, the Pearl Spring of Pukou, Nanjing greets the Nanjing Pearl Spring Chess Tournament in 2009.

        High Level

        Nanjing Pearl Spring Chess Tournament triumphantly joined the Grand Slam “Club”, which contains only four tournaments in the world – tennis, F1, golf and chess. This is an “upgrade” after the success of 2008 Pearl Spring Chess Tournament Nanjing, China and the merging with international tournaments. After joining the Grand Slam Chess Association, it becomes another grand slam tournament besides Corus Chess Tournament, Linares Chess Tournament, M-Tel Masters Sofia and Final Chess Master Bilbao. In another word, it is a super tournament among the top 5 of the world; first in Asia and the only one in China.

        High Skill

        Nanjing Pearl Spring Chess Tournament is signed for 5 years. It will be held from September 27th to October 9th every year, meeting the traditional festival of the National Day golden week. The tournament is named Nanjing Pearl Spring Chess Tournament. 6 grandmasters (2700+ rated) will be invited to play in a double round robin during 11 days.

        Successful Vote

        By mentioning the process of the admittance of Nanjing Pearl Spring Chess Tournament into the Grand Slam, we feel very proud. On early morning of February 1st, 2009 (Beijing time), good news came from the annual conference of the Grand Slam Chess Association held in Holland. Nanjing Pearl Spring Chess Tournament beat competitors Seattle, USA and St. Louis, Argentina and was successfully admitted to the Grand Slam Association. Thus, Nanjing becomes the only city in China that hosts top Grand Slam chess tournament.

        Colorful Activities

        Besides the double round robin for 6 top players, 2009 Nanjing Pearl Spring Chess Tournament also consists of many colorful chess-featured activities. For example: 12 international female grandmasters will compete for the laurel of World Woman Chess Tournament. And there will be Chess Dual Meet of Universities in the North and South, Nanjing Pearl Spring Chess Tourism Festival, Entrepreneur Chess Pro Contest and Student Chess Summer Camp.

        In the golden autumn, the Pearl Spring of Pukou, Nanjing will present a grand show for chess fans all over the world.
