      National Championships come to Boca Raton

      National Chess Championships come to Boca Raton this weekend

      BOCA RATON – Check, mate, if you have time for chess this weekend in Boca Raton.

      The U.S. Class Chess Championships are coming to the Marriott Boca Raton, 5150 Town Circle Friday through Sunday.

      The event, sponsored by the United States Chess Federation, is open to players of all skill levels and has eight divisions of play. The Master’s Division will be rated by the World Chess Federation.

      National Chess Master Jeffrey Haskel, of Boca Raton, will also be participating.

      Players can play in the three-day or two-day schedule with the first game starting at 8 p.m. Friday. There will also be games at 10 a.m., 1 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday. And at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

      Players must register a half hour before their first game. For more details on the championships and entry fees, go to www.floridachess.org or call 713-530-7820.
