      Nat’l open elimination tourneys kick off in NCR

      MANILA, Philippines – The National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) is conducting the 2012 National Open Chess Championship to select the members of the Philippine team who will participate in the Chess Olympiad.

      The elimination tournament will kick off on April 16-20 at the Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence headquarters at No. 56 Mindanao Ave., Quezon City.

      The tournaments are open to all untitled NCFP members who are in good standing.

      They will be conducted nationwide to select the qualifiers for the semi-finals. The top 30 placers or 30% in each elimination tourney, whichever is lower, from the men’s division will advance to the semi-final round, where they will join the seeded international masters, FIDE masters and national masters.

      Registration is P300, and non-NCFP members must apply for membership before joining the tournament by paying the necessary annual dues.

      In the women’s division, the top 40% will advance to the semi-final round together with the seeded woman international masters, woman FIDE masters and woman national masters.

      After the semifinals, the top 6 placers in the men’s division will join 10 grand masters, while the top 8 placers in the women’s category will joing to top 6 seeded placers from the 2011 Battle of Grand Masters in the finals.
