National Women Chess to be held after nine years
      Thursday, 08 Jul, 2010

ISLAMABAD: The second National Women Chess Championship will start at Pakistan Sports Complex from July 12 after a hiatus of nine years.

“It will be a special occasion for female chess players of the country because their national championship is being held after a gap of nine years,” said Abdus Salim, General Secretary of the Pakistan Chess Federation.

The Federation is also organizing a week-long 27th National Chess Championship for men from the same day.

The championships for both men and women will be played under the 11-rounds Swiss League System.

In the men’s Championship, the provincial chess federations will enter ten players each while affiliated departments will have three players each with the exception of Pakistan Railways, which has been allowed to enter six players.

“In the women’s event, Provincial Chess Associations will participate with five players each while all other affiliated bodies will have three players each,” he added.

Besides these allocations for provincial and departmental bodies, national masters, who came in the top eight positions during the pervious championships, can also take part in the event by paying an entry fee of Rs.1000.

The other players from the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad can also take part in the event with an entry fee of Rs.2000. – APP
