As a french person, I amused by the comparaison in the article. I still remember back a few years ago when the f word was refering to a 6 letter word.

However, if it can cheer you up, I can tell you that even in a socialist state like france, we live in a democraty where everybody can be treated from a healness, and where the old people do not feel the stroke coming where they look at the stockmarker, and their always reducing pension.

I disagree with Newsweek. Only the poorest 24 percent of the USA is Socialist because they are lazy ass bums like Sam Sloan.

The reality is, America is the strongest Capitalistic society in the world.

Newsweeks socialist/communist sympathetic owners are only voicing their fantasty as their puppet Obama is making noises pleasing to the 24 percent of the bottom feeders.

The middleclass in America is very aware that the media has a strong hand in trying to sway people into a deviant economic system. Nothing is for free. The price is freedom.

        To arms America! To arms!

Pravda-week should be an indicator of an upcoming revolution that the police state wants to take over.

As a european (norwegian) I find the debate (or fear) quite strange. We have free health care, free education even on university level, a social security net etc. Everything isnt ok, and our oil is saving us at least in Norway, but at least the nordic countries combine socialism with liberalism with relatively success. We have quite a high level of collectivism. I pay more taxes than I get back, until I
need it/the services. I like it, I pay with pleasure. That sounds impossible in your place. my hypothesis is that solidarity is quite an unknown concept in the US?!

But you are on the right path!

The cow says the same thing before the slaughter.

When America falls, your little Eurpean dream will fall too as the world-wide cabal takes you over and makes you slaves.

Of course, you will “I pay with pleasure” while they slit your collective throats. This attitude was shared by many Jews in WWII who were promised hot food and drink if only they took a little shower.

America not only fights for her own freedoms but the freedoms of the West who has fallen asleep under Europa’s siren song of sluggery and apathy. The harvest is near and you are found wanting.

        Fool.

There is no such thing as “free” health care, “free” education, etc. It is the productive citizens of a country who pay for it.

Socialism is simply using the power of government to redistribute wealth from those who earn it to those who don’t.

The US has been moving slowly in that direction for decades. The Obama administration will simply pick up the pace.

Redistribution of wealth is called socialism at your place, or something unfair. we call it solidarity. I pay taxes with pleasure as long as i know this means that the not so blessed in my country get health care, education, social welfare, a place to stay etc.. For you it sounds crazy. Lots of us wondered how you could elect and reelect that Bush. Well reading here I get an answer, Bush and the republicans and most of you probably, want the government to stay out of your pockets. He spoke to your wallet. our governments speak to our hearts and to our moral judgment. We are not bankrupt either morally and fiscally speaking as you are. The problem is that you live on lent money, our money. Otherwise you could have kept your greed and selfishness, also towards your own people, we wouldnt cry a second that day. but we go down with you, thats the worst of all, and we have to listen to heartless people even in a chess site. How many homeless do you have, how many kids without access to a doctor, how many dont get education etc… pathetique

“we have to listen to heartless people even in a chess site. How many homeless do you have, how many kids without access to a doctor, how many dont get education etc… pathetique”

This is a fallacy perpetrated by leftist. In America, our homeless are mentally disturbed people. We give our mentally disturbed the freedom to choose to be homeless or not. No one forced them to be tis way. They made their free choices. Every has access to education and every Americanhas a right to succeeed or fail in their educations. Those who succeed find a way to enter college with or without the governments help, but always pay back any money lent to them. To be American is to be self sufficient so that we do not drain and hurt our fellow American. This is true love. To be one of the “not so blessed” is to be someone whois unwilling to work, unwilling to pull their weight, unwilling to contribute. These are the cancer of society. Now before you start bleating about the the disabled, small children, their mommies, and their puppies, America provides very well for these types. The not so bless people I am talking about are the those who are young/middle aged and healthy who are living on welfare at the expense of hard working people. The probelm in America is that hardworking people are making less and less money to the point where the welfare people are bringing home more money than many of the working lower class. In America the wealth is distributed rather poorly and the problem lies in America’s elite, not its common citizens as you have so blindly accused of being heartless. In your country, your elites have concocted silidarity so that they do not have to be responsible for your rabble.

In America, we fear our elite because 2 World Wars, and several other wars, a Great Depression, and an assasination of JKF still has not broken the spirit of the American middleclass.

Their next move will be to declare martial law in the USA and enslave the common citizen by force because we see solidarity for what it really is: serfdom, dhimmitude, or a better word slavery.

I am sure my words are lost on you as you are a well programmed Euro-sheep. True champions and warriors are the common people of America.

A thing to be grasped by those in bondage and those who wish to bind the American people.

Well, the difference in humanity is obvious and my initial hypothesis is strengthened. Solidarity is a foreign concept in US. we give what you you call cancer of the society, real choices, pay them properly, we encourage workers to be a member of a union, we have rights for women for the sake of equality etc. (do you know mothers can stay at home for 40+ weeks with 100% salary for every kid, in the nordic countries, and both parents 10 days each full paid-no questions asked if your kid is sick every year) we have functional political ideologies to chose from and we know what liberalism of your kind leads to. We have right wing politics (republicans and democrats), socialdemocrats, left wings socialists etc. We know, after all we fought in two wars in Europe so you could be free to ce corrupt and greedy.

First of all, you don’t know dick about how American taxes are used. The American people are distustful of the government because many Americans are becoming aware that their income taxes do not go to the government, but to a privately held corporation called The Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve is no part of the US governmet. It is a sham created by American and European Bankers to undermine the American political process to create a socialist governemt in line with Russia, China, and Europe so that 5 world governance zones can be created: North/South American Union, European Union, Asian Union, African Union, the Oceana Union. With these 5 zones the world government will then be set up in Switzerland and the whole world will be under the oppression of a “gentle” dictatorship ruled by ancient European nobility. Look up the “Black Nobility”. Queen Beatrice is the leader of the pack and hopes to be the worlds first global Queen.

In America, we have access to information you poor Euro-tards do not have access to. But your blindness and sheepishness has allowed your dark ruling class to infiltrate and destroy my country from the inside-out.

Look for another 9-11 and observe your news channels for news about mass killings and people being taken away in the middle of the night. This will happen. The US/world Government has been practicing this event for years.

Look for the fall of the dollar and mass riots in the US streets to see what I am talking about.

You are “safe”. You are already enslaved telling me and other Americans how good life is in a golden cage.

It is just like the Israelis. I´ve discussed with many of them. my statement is “peace is easy. The UN which founded the state of Israel, says you are occopying palestine territoryies. back off as occupants to the 67-borders and peace is what you get”. Nobody wants to discuss that all we hear is ” we have the right to defend ourselves” and ….”holocaust”. Well Israel has to admit that they are occupants as rest of the world is telling before peace comes. Then even I will die for Israels right to defend themselves, not now. The rest of the world think the US still is on the wrong path, but like Israel you believe in he myth, “we are the best ever and what we believe in cant be wrong or discussed!”. Israel is done as moral state. it will rotten from inside.Well they`ve learned that from their big US-brother. May God help us all

Those that dont have are enjoying a life of leisure off the sweat from another. I will agree with you here. Both the USA and Isreal are the best nations the world ever had. The USA is only nation in the history of the world to ascend so quickly and to become the strongest in the history of mandkind. I guess that is a concept too hard for Nordic people to understand. Your arguments are “lame”, just as your whole nation of communistic ice mongers.

Israel existed long before Palestine. The UN/US simply put Israel back where it belongs. The Philistines need to leave as they are making claim to land that was set aside by G-d Himself. Oh, but I forgot that you Nordic lamos are atheists, so again my words are miles above your understanding.

I am amazed how both sides here are generalizing about the other. And how much prejudice I find here.

I for one define myself on the right wing of Norwegian politics. I guess that should place me somewhat in the centre of American politics. Tending a bit towards the right when it comes to economics, and perhaps to the left when speaking about values (with the Amrecian “left” probably being on the right side in Norway).

Although I would regard it as an insult if I was called a socialist, I still think there should be some sort of social security. Such as free health care. But I think the taxes we pay in Norway are way too high, and there are large parts of the public sector that I would make substantial cuts in if I was to decide.

But of course much of our society in Norway and Europe is working. Norway is for instance regularly placed in first place when it comes to standard of living. And we are probably one of the best countries in the world to live in now during this economic crisis.

And why is that? In my view it because we are not socialst, nor followers of Adam Smith. But rather strong supporters of Keynes. Or put in other words, we belive in capitalism with regulations. Which has been proved to bea major success in the nordic countries.

I would like to see us move further to the right (lower taxes, less govenment spending), but still well within the area of Keynism.

But all this aside there is really no use flaming eachther. Europe and USA can not live without eachother in the global world we live in. Afterall there is many bonds between us (financially as well as cultural), although they obviously doesn’t show on this page…

Anon 12:20:00: “peace is easy. The UN which founded the state of Israel, says you are occopying palestine territoryies. back off as occupants to the 67-borders and peace is what you get”

If it were that easy, there would have been no terrorism against Jews in Israel in the 1920s when it began in earnest and when there wasn’t even an Israel. There would have been no attempt by five Arab countries to destroy the newly born Israel after partition in 1948 when the state of Israel was still within the 1967 borders. There would have been no 1967 war because Israel was still within the 1967 borders.

The issue is that many, many Arabs (and Muslims in general) want to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. Hamas is clear in stating that their aim is the destruction of Israel, not regaining Gaza.

        Henrik,

Good answers all, but I think the American was saying is that he would prefer to live his way instead of our way. I beleive we all have that in common. We all love our own way of life, whatever that may be, of course.

Also, I think the American is angry as something in his government and is angry for not having his position supported by Norwegians. I am certain most Americans secretly yearn for the approval of Norway, but I could be wrong!

I always enjoyed holiday in Norway, as long as no one gets hurt—including the animals Norway won’t prosecute me for having a date with my pet goat. Norway doesn’t any laws banning the practice of bestiality—at least not yet.
The proprietors and presumably customers as well have convinced themselves and the governments involved that the animals are experienced and welcome the chance for this intimate interaction with another species.

I cannot believe all the conspiracy nonsense fostered here. I’d like to see some evidence for it. The Reagan and Bush economic policies have led to the very financial crisis you enjoy. You refused to monitor the gambling activity on the Stock Market and some people got really enthusiastic about that, also contributing to this crisis. Now a Democratic president will get all the blame for being unable to fix a problem he did not cause.

It’s truly astounding to look at American society and wonder how you manage to put up with this nonsense for so long. Newsweek is dead wrong – you’re not even close to being socialists.

As for all the homeless being mentally challenged – where’s your evidence for that?

Your massive wealth is based on European dominance of the world when your country was founded and the subsequent genocide and technological development that opened up the resource development you enjoy. Not all this technology was American.

        OK – evidence:
The writer I refer to needs to read anything by Noam Chomsky and get his head out of the sand. I also recommend “A People’s History of the United States” by Howard Zinn. I further recommend “Discovering America As It Is” by Valdas Anelauskas (Clarity Press, 1999). Anelauskas was a Lithuanian dissident brought over to America by right-wing ideologues, and then promptly abandoned when the Soviet Union collapsed in 1989. “Discovering America” is the result of Anelauskas’ research after that event. The title of Introduction gives you an idea of the tenor of the book: “My Journey to the Land of Misery and Plutocracy.”

A little friendly advice from your socialist neighbour, Canada.

No, get you facts straight! The current financial crisis was caused by FDR (who created FMAC and FNMA), Jimmy Carter (Community Reinvestment Act), Bill Clinton (who put CRA on steroids), Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd (who resisted GWB’s efforts to fix FMAC and FNMA), and Alan Greenspan (whose easy money inflated the housing bubble).
