
Nigerian chess team trains in Angola

Luanda, Angola – The Nigerian national chess team will begin a training tour of Angola next week to improve players’ technical skills, ahead of Nigeria’s participation in the Chess Olympiad, scheduled for 20 September to 4 October, in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.
According to the Angolan sports sources, the Angolan trip is also one of the Nigeria Chess Federation’s pre-competition programmes to be executed in the souther n Africa country.
The Angolan Chess Federation secretary general, Abraão dos Reis, said the Nigerians would engage their counterparts from Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambi a and Angola during the training programme.
According to dos Reis, Nigeria will stay in the country for two weeks with a group of six players who will participate in the CUCA Cup between 12 and 20 May.
The event will feature chess players from Nigeria, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, England, Russia, Portugal and Angola.
Besides CUCA international tournament, the Nigerian delegation will play two games against teams from Luanda Province.
