LAGOS, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) — After a brilliant outing of the men’s national team against Jamaica at the ongoing World Chess Olympiad in Germany on Tuesday, Nigeria faces a tough fight to advance in the competition.
International Master Dapo Adu is scheduled to clash with Estonia’s Grand Master Kulaots Kaido on board one on Thursday, according to the Punch report.
Benjamin Omorere, having been impressive at the tournament, will have his hands full when he plays in black against Kaido’s compatriot, international master Riho Liiva on board two.
Charles Campbell will be on board four against Aleksadir Volodin who is yet to drop a game so far in the series.
Adegboyega Adebayo will watch the proceedings from the stands following a fever attack but he his expected to be in action on Friday, team leader Sani Mohammed said.
“Adebayo is still very much in contention for a medal on his board and having him on the bench against Estonia will put him in the right frame of mind for the remaining games,” he said.
In the women’s category, Nigeria will take on Dominican Republic with Folasayo Togun in white against women’s FIDE Master Eneida Perez.
Rachael Dappa is expected to use her wealth of experience against Mercedes De la Cruz on board two just as Keina Jose Palanco will tackle aggressive Merit Uwa on board three and Tolu Jeje on board four will face Dorisbel Munoz.

Go Dapo! Go!…but what of Chikwere???
Nigeria is playing finally?? Oh my God, I am so excited I feel like breakdancing!!!!! Go my boys! Repeat Odion’s feat from 10 years ago.
But what happened to Olympiad perennial and former Unilorin board 2 Olape Bunmi and IM Aikhoje Odion?
Unfortunately Bunmi didn’t qualify. Chikwere didn’t make the qualifier due to logistic issues. Odion qualified but the funds didn’t come through.
