According to the official website, there was no handshake between Topalov and Kramnik. Since neither offered, they did not have to. In addition, it was reported that the novelty 12.Nxf7 was prepared by GM Cheparinov, Topalov’s second, as far back as 3 years ago. The analysis went as deep as move 40 in some lines!
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
No one should be forced to shake hands.
Agreed!
12.Nxf7 was played in 2006 in a corespondance game by Miron Nacu during preliminary EC, after black played Kxf7, Nacu reply 13.f4
“No one should be forced to shake hands.”
The ultimate in coercion! (sheesh)
I got a new scandal for you. Did you know that in karate tournaments, you’re forced to bow to your opponent before sparring. It’s an outrage!
As for Cheparinov’s novelty,it just goes to show one thing. The last truly great and original GM was Robert James Fischer. Nowadays any chess master can come up with the goods using computer help. And are we really sure it was Cheparinov’s novelty and not Rykba’s!
“God exists and he is not Bulgarian!” Nice sense of humour GM Short!and also well done in winning what must have been a stressful encounter.
Why not bow in traditional Japanese fashion or ‘namaste” in traditional Indian fashion. Solves all these problems!
I want to send my greetings to all those who suggested that Cheparinov should NEVER be invited to Corus again. In case you miss it, go and see his amazing win today. Yeah, I know you missed it while you’re waiting for something terrific from Short.
If we read the official report more carefully we will notice “Of course the sacrifice leads to a highly complicated position, with many possibilities, and its true test lies in the line that starts with 17…Rhg8!?, instead of 17…Qxd4?” Which simply means that those were the heavy analyzed lines (up to move #40) and they were NOT played in the actual game. Let’s not belittle the fact that Topalov beat the crap out of Kramnik today.
Fisher is alive.
His spirit is in Veselin Topalov.
God is Bulgarian.
To ela
don’t insult Fischer!
and the Devil is Bulgarian.
Imagine if Fischer had behind him a strong second or team of seconds. And I don’t mean Lombardy for instance.
Sure, Fischer did have his seconds indeed. Speaking of seconds I have a question to ask. Can you refresh my memory if a famous GM has honored so many of his second’s achievements before? This is not the first time Topalov openly confirms and gives full credit to Cheparinov. Is there a lesson to learn in all this?
Anon @ 4:30, a very good point indeed! Cudos to Topa for giving Chepa credit whenever aplicable. I think Topa-Silvio-Cheparinov symbiosis is an example how teamwork can actually benefit all players involved. I’m sure being part of the team is what catapulted Chepa in the top 20 in the world.
If I were Kramnik I’d object to even having to play a weasel like Topalov.
Imagine a player such as Kramnik having to cheat to beat Topalov (In their match). Where is the class? Kramnik didn’t even play that well and he still won. I was all for Topalov before he demonstrated his crude and unethical behavior. Topalov can take satisfaction on his amazing novelty. But no matter what,he will never be considered a world champion.
If I were Kramnik, I would apply for the job of toilet mascot for Tide-E-Bowl brand toilet cleaner.
“A Clean toilet receives the best computer chess signals”. -V. Kramnik.
To one of the many anonymous:
This game is in Fisher style, no matter, that the line is prepared before, just masterpiece
Piece sacrifice, queen sacrifice- the beauty of chess and all this done for 75 min.
Who insult Fisher?
Quote:При всех его очевидных отклонениях в психике…
-from Kramnik interview with meaning that is genius, but with obvious psychical deviations
(http://chesspro.ru/_events/2008/weik13.html)
How could one chess-player say this at such moment, but in general this is Kramnik style
And God and Devil are Bulgarians at the same time?
Too much for a small country, but well, who knows…
And some coincidences:
– Both Topalov and Cheparinov played with white
– Both started with d4
– Both launched novelties at move 12
– Both played against members of appeals committee (Kramnik, Krasenkow)
– Both won masterpiece games
– Both spent similar amount of time
– Both won around move 42 (42 and 45) and so on
And this is the day after so called no-shake-hands scandal
Well for sure there is justice after all
What is your opinion on hand-shake?
