      Nolte wins Malaysia chess tournament

      MANILA, Philippines – International Master (IM) Rolando Nolte won the 5th Penang Heritage City International Chess Open 2013 by beating Malaysian Yeoh Li Tian in the final round at the Red Rock Hotel in Penang, Malaysia on Friday night.

      Nolte ended up with 7.5 points in nine outings, good enough for the Penang title and the 5,000 Malaysian Ringgit top prize.

      Meanwhile, International master (IM) Andrey Kvon of Uzbekistan, IM candidate Roel Abelgas of the Philippines and Fide Master (FM) Riste Menkinoski of Macedonia finished with 7.0 points each to share second to fourth places.

      Seven year old Alekhine Nouri , the world’s youngest Fide Master, topped the Under 8-category with 5.5 points, while National Master (NM) Carlo Magno Rosaupan of the Philippine Army landed at solo second in the Challengers section with 7.5 points. -Marlon Bernardino
