WAS A SCAM. FISCHER HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS.
Maybe the government stopped this. Fischer’s indictment probably wouldn’t allow him to sell anything in the US and profit from it.
It was hosted by eBay Canada so it wasnt the USA that stopped it.
I believe the real title of the book is My 60 Memorable Games not 61. I have a first edition of the book packed away and it is a great book.
Actually, he was being threatened with bodily harm from various Anti-Fischer factions and felt he had to retract the auction.

Really, I don’t mind people making up stories and telling them as fact (where I come from, that used to be called a lie, but to each his own), but the least they could do would be to make up something semi-plausible.
This had “hoax” written all over it from the start. I can’t believe so many people actually thought it might be real. Mig, Chessville, and several others pointed out the obvious phonyness of it as soon as it hit the discussion groups.
I have a chess crown I am willing to lend for a few dollars.
