One of the first changes that I will make

      Executive Board, USCF

I will push hard for many changes in the next 4 years to make the USCF a more professional, fiscally responsible, successful and respectable organization. I came into this election as an independent ticket and I will remain so. I will work with all qualified persons and the number one priority for me will always be the welfare of US Chess and the USCF.

One of the first changes is to make USCF news and information available to all USCF members much faster. This is YOUR organization. You deserve to know what is going on. Debates, votes, discussions and much more will be posted here shortly after every meeting and at the latest within 24 hours or when I have access to the Internet. While I do not have control of the USCF website, I have full control of my blog and you will be very well informed of many issues.

In the next 6 days, I will let you know as much as I can about various meetings and workshops that I will attend. In addition, I will let you know on Monday the results of the election of the USCF Presidency as well as other positions such as USCF VP, USCF VP of Finance and USCF Secretary. You will then be able to determine for yourself if people will put the best interest of the USCF first or it will be business and politics as usual.

All board members including me should be held accountable for each of our votes. We should all be held accountable for our actions and conducts. It is time for a new USCF.

Congratulations Susan! I believe with your work ethic and success in all your endeavors you will create a very healthy atmosphere for both American chess and The USCF! ; )

“..I do not have control of the USCF website, I have full control of my blog..”
The problem with this is, you do not allow criticisms against you to be published. Many times these criticisms are by well meaning individuals, not people with a personal vendetta against you. In the past you have confused my criticisms as personal vendetta and censored them. I wonder if this comment will get censored… if not, then things are really improving for the better at the USCF! 😉

I have no problem if people disagree with me. Plenty of people have disagreed with me including my husband and sisters. However, I do have a problem with posts containing false accusations, innuendos, or rude comments. This is my blog. It is meant to keep chess players informed of the chess news and to promote chess positively. This is not a place for people to come to take cheap shots toward me anonymously. The current USCF issues forums is unacceptable. If people cannot accept my rules then don’t read or post here. The same with the USCF. If people do not like how I conduct myself as a board member then they will vote me out the next time. But I will not allow this place to turn into rec.games or the USCF forums issues. I did not run for the EB to sacrifice myself for the next 4 years to keep the status quo.

        Best wishes,
        Susan Polgar

Good job Susan! You can’t win with bullies like Lafferty, Nierman, Mottorshead and Payne. They’ll shout the same garbage to themselves and after a while, they’ll believe in it. Just do what you do. The members have spoken loudly.

Good luck with everything Susan. I’m glad to hear that you consider getting the information out quickly as a high priority item. This has been a problem for the USCF and it’s great to hear that this is going to be addressed.

As far as the USCF forums are concerned, some of us are trying to get that mess cleaned up. All I can say is that we’ll try.

It was good to see you in Cherry Hill — I’m sure we’ll be in some of the same workshops over the next few days.

The USCF forums are silly. If I were a potential sponsor and decided to check out what I was investing in by checking out the forums, I would run.

I am not saying to shut down the forums, I am saying that responsible USCF members should understand the impact they might have with some of those childish posts.

Too much internet tough guy attitude over there. Some of those people should grow up.

Can you say what the retirement plan issue is that keeps showing up on the USCF forums?

I am not asking what your opinion or solution is (I assume that will come in time), just a description of the issue.
        Thanks

I do not know enough about the retirement issue / pension plan to discuss it at this moment. All I know is it does effect some of the people I know and it is unfair to them.

I plan to find out a lot more about it after I am officially on the board and entitled to see a lot of the confidential info which I do not have now. I will discuss this issue when I have all the info.

        Best wishes,

Mayan, the 7 board members will be voting for the positions on Monday. This is when we’ll know if everyone will put the best interest of the USCF first or it will be politics as usual as Susan stated. It will come down to Goichberg and Susan. We’ll see if he indeed cares about the USCF or his personal ego after she won by a landslide with the best percentage ever.

Thanx for the info. I hope Susan wins! We are privelaged to have this golden oppurtunity for USCF chess. Not since Fischer boom of 1972 have I and many others await a great future for US Chess again. I hope many more will join Gata Kamsky in Super GM World Class and World Champion candidates. At the moment it seems we have more talent in Woman’s chess than Mens.

        You are right on Susan.

        Keep up the good work.

Just keep being Susan and everything will work out just fine. Many people are trying to make you into a different person. That would be a mistake. You must be who you are. You are definitely on the right road. Just keep going in your direction and you will get to your destination.

Nice to see we will finally get to find out what is happening at USCF. Great that you will be updating us here on your blog. That is a nice little bonus for us.

To solve a problem you must fix what is wrong. The forums are not addressing the correct problem so they will never come to a solution.

When you correctly identify the problem the solution will be obvious. Until then you are floating on a sinking ship.

“Trying to fix the problem” says you have the wrong problem and therefore do not have the correct solution. It is like the doctor who addresses the symptoms of the disease insead of the cause.

The USCF site is so behind the times and it needs to have much better timeliness in reporting our activities as well as a thorough website redesign.

Look at the new redesign… where is the darned news link anyway? ‘Shop’ is the most prominent link on the left hand side!? How many people come to the site to shop? We should be reporting the news and our other activities to get new members to join in the first place; and ‘shop’ should be one of the very bottom links. The whole structure and website vision has been inconsistent at best. Getting around the USCF site is a mess, try it yourself sometime.

If anyone understands the concept of having a solid web presence with regular updates, it is Susan Polgar. The vast majority of our membership does not care about rehashing the tiny details of every political issue or intrigue that are brought up by a small vocal minority; but they want to read what is happening in the world of chess, and fixing this should be our priority as far as I am concerned.

Bravo Susan! I welcome your needed vision to the board.

Where do you stand on the problem of soon having no American representation in ICCF that Franklin Campbell wrote about back in June?

I emailed you and FM Truong, as well as all the other EB members and candidates for the EB, all the information on several occasions.

Do you have any plans or intentions on this subject?

        Mr. Owens,

I will be in Cherry Hill until Monday. Could you please ask Mr. Franklin Campbell to outline to me his suggestion regarding this matter? I will see what I can do to fix it or help make things happen.

        Thank you.

Stevie O? Why do you want Susan and Paul to help you when you were against them? Why don’t you ask the candidates who you voted for to help you?

This is great news. I hope that with Sam Sloan off the board and a current board made up of responsible grown-ups, it will be a productive year. Maybe deputize Mr. Sloan to go off to the landfill to look for missing files and computers. Seriously, I don’t fully understand the pension issue but it would be good to resolve it as quickly as possible. Fix the website. It’s ridiculous that a year or more later, you still have the “old website” hanging around. Look at the websites of other sports that have youth, collegiate, adult and pro constituencies and learn from them. Keep your Saturday open forum. Hopefully it won’t be all about politics. Good luck with everything.

First of all, congratulations to you, Susan, and the other winners of the election. I would like to see the USCF become a more positive and professional organization.

Second, I agree with the poster who said

“I am not saying to shut down the forums, I am saying that responsible USCF members should understand the impact they might have with some of those childish posts.

Too much internet tough guy attitude over there. Some of those people should grow up.”

I am thrilled that you have this blog and keep us regularly informed and allow dialogue. Ideally the forums should be the place to do conduct this, but as the poster stated, the childish behavior of some people detracts from that.

Isn’t it for the USCF EB to decide what information about EB meetings is put out – and when and how?
You seem to be saying that you will run your own commentary on EB meetings: seems a bit divisive to me.

How is Erik Moscow progressing in his quest to become an IM in one year?

I think he also said he would give millions to chess if you were elected, these are very exiting times for the USCF.
