World Chess Championship match: Organisers to set aside tickets for young playersDC | S Sujatha | 16 hours 14 min ago

Up and coming chess players and chess enthusiasts who can’t afford to buy tickets for Viswanathan Anand’s world championship match against Magnus Carlsen at Hyatt Regency here in November needn’t worry about missing the mega event. The organising committee of the big ticket contest has decided to allocate 50 to 100 tickets out of the total 400 for fans and budding players.

A broad outline on ticket prices was drawn during the organising committee’s meeting on Saturday.

Hundred celebratory seats, located closest to the contestants, will be sold in the denominations of Rs.2,500 and Rs.2,000. Season tickets, covering the whole series, in the Rs.2,500 category will be available for `22,000. One has to shell out Rs.18,000 in the Rs.2,000 denomination to catch up action on all days from November 7 to 28.

According to sources, five corporate boxes comprising 10 seats each are up for grabs. Each box will cost Rs.3 lakh. The organising committee is also planning to allocate tickets to the families and friends of Anand and Carlsen besides setting aside seats for representatives from the Tamil Nadu government, TN State Chess Association and All India Chess Federation.

There will also be ample space for journalists to keep a tab on what is billed to be the greatest chess match of recent times.
