Susan Polgar Foundation FINAL video from Lisa Suhay on Vimeo.

From my 30 plus years of experience, I discovered that chess can help children of all ages do better in school as well as develop many important life skills. Research around the world has supported my belief. Countless studies have shown that chess can help develop critical and strategical thinking that can be used in other areas of a child’s life, academics and social situations. According to research, test scores improved by 17.3% for students regularly engaged in chess classes, compared with only 4.6% for children participating in other forms of enriched activities.

We hope to get many more schools to offer chess in the schools, and colleges to offer more scholarships for chess. And we are working to promote chess as a grassroots movement in some of the smaller cities.”

The mission of the Susan Polgar Foundation is to promote chess, with all its educational, social, and competitive benefits throughout the United States, for young people of all ages, especially girls. In the past 10 years, through our partners, sponsors, and donors, the Susan Polgar Foundation has awarded nearly $4 million in chess scholarships for talented and deserving young people.

In more than 40 nations across the globe, including Brazil, China, Armenia, Venezuela, Italy, Israel, Russia and Greece, etc., chess is incorporated into the country’s scholastic curriculum.

The Susan Polgar Foundation, with this in mind, has established many high profile tournaments throughout the year in order for younger girls and boys to excel through chess. The top tournaments right now are the Susan Polgar Girls’ Invitational, the Susan Polgar National Open for Girls and Boys, the Susan Polgar World World Open for Girls and Boys and the Get Smart! Play Chess! series, etc. All of these events have received national or international acclaim and continue to grow every year.

I have also personally trained many teachers to teach chess in their perspective schools. In the last 4 years, the Susan Polgar Foundation has distributed more than 500,000 free copies of my chess curriculum. We would like to do more to help all young people.

To me chess is like life itself. Chess is combining, so many important qualities in life, such as concentration, focusing and planning ahead, and taking into account the people around you, and precision, and research, and psychology, and time management, and a number of other very important life skills that we deal with on an everyday basis. I believe chess teaches you to be more responsible.

Please join me in helping children excel in school and in life. Thank you!

      Best wishes,
      Susan Polgar

Dear Mam Susan Polgar: I am Mr. Danilo Pelias living in Talamban, Cebu City, philippines 6000. I really admire the pictures i saw here with children learning and playing chess. Just as I teach the basics of chess playing also to children in our place, i feel so inspired to voluntary tutor them for the love of the game and for the future of the children into the world of chess, and will be the pride of our small town in the future, only God knows. It is my heartfelt intentions to let you know that if ever you have some “sparest” equipment your sponsors perhaps can share, I pray and wish that we can have even one good chess clock to use in my tutoring to children, I will find the other means to produce for chess sets which is not so costly as to the chess clock. My address is DANILO O. PELIAS, T-shirt printing, St. Anthony, Hiway 77, Talamban, Cebu City , Philippines 6000.

        Dear Susan,
I wonder if you would consider helping this girl:

        http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=5965666

I don’t remember reading about her on your page during the 2010 Olympiad, but perhaps I missed it.

If your assistance is for U.S. students only, perhaps you could assist her coach in finding other sources.

        Keep up the great work!

        Phil
