Considering the queen’s only defender is the rook at d1, the very first thing I would look at is Re1+ to try to deflect the rook at d1:
1. …..Re1+
And, of course, 2.Re1 loses the queen at d5, but Kf2 is actually worse materially:
2. Kf2 Qd5 2. Rd5 Ra1
And black has won a full rook. So, if I were white, I would resign first, or if I were feeling combative, play 2.Re1 and fight on down a queen for a rook.
Good to know that even good players are sometimes struggeling like this. I dont now the last white move, but obviosly he oversaw the easy trick 1. … Re1+. Perhaps he thought about 2. Kf2 Qf1+, 3. Kg3 and nothing has happened, but of course Black simply plays 2. … Qxd5 and Black wins a rook.
Also after Kf2 then Rxb2+ seems to win an extra pawn e.g. 1..Re1+ 2.Kf2 Rxb2+ 3.Kg3 (Kxe1 Qe2#, or Rd2 Qxd5 Rxb2 Rxa1) Qxd5 4. Rxd5 Rxa1
I wanted to find a mating combination after Kf2 such as with ideas like Qh4+ g3 Qxh2+ Kxe1 Re8+ Kf1 or Rxb2+ Kg3 but can’t find anything convincing besides the previously mentioned win of material.
oops, sorry…draw follows by perpetual check in the line rxg2+…probably the correct sequence would be re1+ kf2 rxb2+ kg3 qxd5 rxd5 rxd1 going for a winning endgame…i dont see any quick mate!:(
I was thinking about …Re1+ than white goes with 2.Kf2 Qe2+ 3.Kg3 and the white should get in trouble, but I didn’t see the continuation, I’m just a beginner, you know…
Re1+

Re1+ Kf2
Qxd5 Rxd5
Rxa1 (Black win with an extra rock)
Good to know that even good players are sometimes struggeling like this. I dont now the last white move, but obviosly he oversaw the easy trick

re1+
if kf2 then rb2 and qf2
1. … Re1+ Kf2 2. Qxd5
1…Re1+
if Rxe1 then Qxd5 wins the Q
if Kf2 then Qxd5 Rxd5 Rxa1 seems to win.
Also after Kf2 then Rxb2+ seems to win an extra pawn e.g. 1..Re1+

Black should play Qc2 then Re2. White can’t prevent mate in the 2nd rank.
Rook to E1; white loses his Q or mate in two.
Re1+ Kf2 Rxb2+ Kg3 Rxg2+ Kxg2 Qf1+ Kg3 Qg1+ and mate follows soon for the trapped king!
1..,Re1+ 2Kf2,Qxd5 3Rxd5,Rxa1
oops, sorry…draw follows by perpetual check in the line rxg2+…probably the correct sequence would be re1+ kf2 rxb2+ kg3 qxd5 rxd5 rxd1 going for a winning endgame…i dont see any quick mate!:(
1…Re1 wins immediately
2.Rxe1 Qxd5 or
2.Kf2 Qxd5 3.Rxd5 Rxa1
1. – Re1+
and black wins a Queen for a Rook:
2. Re1+ Qd5
or
2. Kf2 again Qd5
1. — Re1 looks strong
I prefer the more direct 1…Re1+ deflecting the rook. 1…Qc2 may be answered by 2. Rac1.
Hello
1. …. , Re1+
2. Rxe1 , Qxd5 winning
Greetings from Spain
1. … Re1+
2. Kf2 ( or 2. Rxe1 Qxd5)
2. … Qxd5
3. Rxd5 Rxa1
And black has won a rook.
1)…, Te1+
2)Rf2, Dd5
1…Re1+! 2Kf2 Qe2+ 3Kg3 Rc2
Win a rook by Re1+ Kf2 QxQ
The apparently obvious move is
1. … Re1+
2. Kf2 Rxb2+
Now almost forced is …
3. Rd2 Rxd2
4. Qxd2 Rxa1
seems to win a rook, if I’m not
missing some quick mate
1… Re1+
2 Kf2 (Rxe1 Qxd5) Qh4+
3 g3 Qh2+
4 Kxe1 Re8+
5 Kf1 Re2
Now White gets desparate
6 Qd8+ Kg7
7 Qd4+f6
8 Qd7+ Kh6
White resigns
Rook on E6 to E8 check
Rook x Rook – QxQ
correction: rook on rook E6 to E1.. heh
1. Re1+ Kf2
2. Qd5 Rd5
3. Ra1
1… Re1+!
2.Re1?? Qe5 (White drops the Queen)
(If 2.Kf2 Rb2+, the rest, I think, is a mating net that White cannot escape.)
RE1 check looks pretty obvious.
Re1 Kf2 (Re1 Qd5) Qd5 Rd5 Ra1 wins a rook.
1…Re1+
2.Kf2 [2.Rxe1 Qxd5] Qxd5
3.Rxd5 Rxa1
0-1
Re1+ and then QxQ, if RxQ then RxR with a extra rook.
re1+! the whole hook and ladder trick. if white doesnt take it, then qxq and then takes the rook on al.
1…Re1+ 2.Kf2 Qxd5 3.Rxd5 Rxa1 wins immediately.
Kamalakanta
Te1+ !!!!

I was thinking about …Re1+ than white goes with 2.Kf2 Qe2+ 3.Kg3 and the white should get in trouble, but I didn’t see the continuation, I’m just a beginner, you know…
Bye Susan, I’m a fan
Almajida
1. Re1+ RxR
2. QxQ 1-0
1. … Kf2
2. QxQ RxQ
3. RxR 1-0
Mark
Obviously Re1+. If Kf2 then QxQ, RxQ RxR wins.
More interestingly I just downloaded ChessQuest for the iPhone and was just passing this exact tactic (#64) as I was reading this. Spooky.
Good to see that these “standard” tactics actually do appear in high level games now and then.
