SPICE was established in 2007. The goal of SPICE is to work with our friends and colleagues to enhance chess, education, technology, and research, etc.

I strongly believe that College Chess is a critical bridge between Scholastic and Adult Chess. If we can successfully promote College Chess, we will retain a lot more of our scholastic players and transition them to Adult Chess. Chess as a sport is not big enough yet and there is plenty of room to grow. Therefore, it is vital that we work together and assist each other for the best interest of our sport.

SPICE is a premier center for chess education, research, technology, and outreach. The goal of SPICE is to:

      – Recruit outstanding undergraduate and graduate students to TTU and TTU-HSC

      – Provide a substantial amount of scholarships to chess players

      – Be a world leader in promoting women’s chess

      – Support the nation’s most elite chess programs

      – Promote chess as vehicle for enriching the education of children

      – Serve as a center for chess education and research

      – Support and promote competitive chess at the college level.

      – Bring national and international recognition to TTU and TTU-HSC

Chess is fine as a hobby, but intelligent people should pick careers that actually contribute to humanity, such as in scientific or humanitarian efforts rather than devote their life to a game that probably won’t pay enough to live on.

        Anonymous,

Given your use of the words “humanity” and “humanitarian” in one sentence, my bet is you’re actually anti-capitalist. So, why use “pay” to bolster your argument?

        Live and let live.

I agree with the second Anon who argues for perspective.

Chess is an interesting game with a long history and culture.

That doesn’t mean it’s at the centre of the universe. Let’s get real about this.

Wow! i thought U.S. was #1, u know they been “mixing me up” lately Susan, I must say im not sure what women’s chess is though, this gender stuff, doesnt exist UM Chess,i guess that can be understood as supporting women chessplayers or all women tournaments.Maybe u should go to Hollywood and have them put you on a beard and some makeup and enter a “mens tournament and see if theres a difference! hehehehe. Eddie Murphy did it, He was a white guy on Saturday Night Live! hehehe!
