Easy. Qd7 threatening Rh7 checkmate. Black resigns. 3 seconds.

Yeah, Anon @ 2:44 – only that you got it wrong. So maybe not that easy?!

Of course, 1.Qh3+ Qh5 2.Rh7+! Kxh7 3.Qxh5 is the proper way to conclude this attack.

        1. Qh3+, Dh5
        2. Rh7+ K:h7
        3. Q:h5+ and wins.

        I rather thought it was Qh3+ when Qh5 Rh7+! Kxh7 Qxh5+ (pin on g pawn by B ) wins.

After Qd7 it seems black can defend with nf6

That doesn’t work. Black can simply play Nf6 to stop the mate.

Qd7 is not the best move. Qh3+ is the strongest move, following by Rh7+

        2.Rh7+ Kxh7 3. Qxh5+ black cannot take the lady.

qh3+, black queen blocks on h5, then Rh7+, KxR, now qxh5 because the pawn is pinned.

        Qh3+, Q interposes.
        Rh7+. K x R
        QxQ+ *Pawn is pinned.

Black’s Queen threatens a strong position at c1. Keep it away from there.

        1. Qh3+ z Qh5
        2. g4

Black’s queen is pinned. This should eventually become a W win assuming they can handle Black’s Queen side pawns.

        1. Qh3+ Qh5
        2. Rh7+ Kxh7
        3. QxQ (And the pawn is pinned so black can’t recapture)

Took me a bit more than 15 seconds, but not too much more.

        1. Qh3+ Qh5
        2. Rh7+ Kxh7
        3. Qxh5!

White wins a queen for a rook.

it took me a minute or so, but

        1. Qh3+ Qh5 forced
        2. Rh7+ if KxR then
        3. QxQ and black can’t take back since the pawn is pinned.

        2. if …Kg5, then
        3. RxQ

        1.Qh3+ Qh5

        3.QxQ

        In less than a minute.

        1. Qh3+ Qh5
        2. Qe3+ …if Qg5 then rook to h7+ winning the black queen

if Pg5 then rook to h7 mate.

Qd7 must have been that Vidmar J.A. Laffarty.

The move is Qh3 followed by Rh7 winning B’s Q.

        2. Qe3 Qg5
        3. Rh7 wins the queen for the rook.

        Also, if

        2. …g5
        3. Qe6 leads to mate.

I saw Qh3 in about 5 seconds, but it took me a minute to work out the lines for certainty.

I think the strongest move is
        1. Bxg6, because of the threat of 2. Rh7+ and Qh3+, and there’s no black pawn to control h5.

it’s so easy. Qd7. wait, that doesn’t seem to work. it’s okay. that took 3 seconds, leaving me with 7-12 seconds…
        …
        …
the most forcing line i could find (in the time allotted) is:

        1 Qh3 Qh5
        2 Qe3

        if 2…Qg5. 3 Rh7 Kh7 (forced), picks up the Q on g5.

        if 2…g5 3 Rh7 mates

yes! and with 2.7 seconds left! time for a nap

Hey, does anyone know how to email Judith? There is a great puzzle from a game that I played that would be great for the blog readers to try! Neither myself nor my opponent found the complete correct continuation, but it is crazy. It is at chessexpress.blogspot.com Sunday August 23
