GM Joel was, is, and always will be the best and most humble grandmaster of the USA.

“What makes a Real American? Just being born on U.S. soil?”

Nope. A real Americans great-great grand-daddys would have had to have knocked out a few local indians when Columbus arrived.

“Nope. A real Americans great-great grand-daddys would have had to have knocked out a few local indians when Columbus arrived.”

That’s the most absurd thing I’ve heard all day! And I’ve been up quite early!

        P.S. You sound like a redneck…

If one wants to squabble about “real” Americans, well, then the only “real” ones are American Indians who were here for thousands of years before the arrival of the Spanish. All White Americans are of European descent. Hence, we’re not “real” Americans either.

Being born on U.S. soil makes one a citizen. However, if one reads the Consitution of the United States, it clearly and undeniable states that “narutlized” citizens are citizen and it makes no distinction once a person gets that American passport and citizenship.

I was born to military parents (both American by birth) but in South Korea. Hmmmm, am I not a “real American” because my father was in the army, stationed in South Korea when I was born?

It takes a very narrow minded fool to differentiate between a “real” American….Bobby Fischer renounced his citizenship, hence, he died NOT an American.

The founders knew quite well (as they were born BRITISH as the colonies were part of the BRITISH EMPIRE)…the first five Presidents of the United States were born British citizens (begin part of the British empire) and only becoming “American” once the Treaty of Paris was signed in 1783.

So, stew on that for a while.

And, what makes an American is where you’re born, but also by believing in a certain set of principles…people often come here for better economic opportunities, and become American citizens, vote, have American passports…and, I dare say,

Are much more loyal Americans that Bobby Fischer ever was.

The person(s) posting about the top U.S. players not being “real” Americans are doing so only to stir up attention. Pay them no mind and they will go away.

And always remember…the top U.S. players (though born elsewhere but are now citizens) have the U.S. flag by their names in tournaments.

They are just as “American” by definition as the founding fathers.

“the first five Presidents of the United States were born British citizens”

I didn’t know that!! Can it be? Is it true? Cross your heart and hope to sneeze?

“Are much more loyal Americans that Bobby Fischer ever was.”

No one cares about them being loyal (they certainly privately ain’t, tap their phone lines and you’ll know, only publicly), every 10th goes to jail anyway, we care about World Champion titles, and Bobby got us one. Hail to Bobby!

        1. American Indians didn’t play chess in that time.

2 “Bobby Fischer renounced his citizenship, hence, he died NOT an American.” since the USA governmant has tried to arrest him (he played chess with Boris Spassky).

3 “narutlized” citizens are citizens of the USA but can be deprivable and send them back to where they original come from. Nature born citizen can NOT deprive his (her) citizenship.

Bobby Fischer died NOT an American citizen, but he still IS TRUE and REAL American, great American chess player forever.

I think we see how intlligent you are….

not as intelligent as the chimpanzees that have been taught sign language…

At least they do not misspell words and butcher the English language.

        You’re so pathetic it’s hilarious.
Keep the posts coming….with your spelling and grammar, it creates a laugh that helps me through my work day.

I think the original intent was to point out that none of the players in the US top ten developed their chess skill in the United States, that they were born elsewhere, learned and developed their chess skill elsewhere, and came to the US as adults.
Mostly true, but not totally. Nakamura came to the US at the age of two and learned to play chess there. Few people play chess in Japan, so he most certainly could not have developed into a grandmaster there.
