      Romanian Chess Championships 2012

      (I am told that it is delayed for a few days due to bad weather. Stay tuned for updates.)

      The 2012 Romanian Chess Championships for men and women are set to take place from 10th to 19th February at the Great Hall of the Hotel Casino in Sarata Monteoru.

      Men’s championship will be played over 11 rounds of Swiss system, while ladies will compete over 9 rounds of Swiss.

      The total prize fund for both events is 30000 RON, roughly around 6900 EUR.

      Grandmasters in attendance: defending champion Lupulescu Constantin 2648, Parligras Mircea 2650, Nevednichy Vladislav 2546, Berescu Alin 2488 (all from AEM Timisoara), Vajda Levente 2594 (Apa Nova), Szabo Gergely 2554 (CC Bucuresti), Manolache Marius 2554 (Medicina Timis), Nanu Ciprian 2520 (Dinamo Bucuresti) and Jianu Vlad 2508 (CSM Lugoj).

      Women Grandmasters: defending champion Foisor Cristina 2395 (AEM Timisoara), Peptan Corina 2425 (CSM Bucuresti), L’Ami Irina 2360 (Poli Iasi), Cosma Luminita 2325 (Apa Nova) and Sandu Mihaela 2248 (Medicina Timis).
