      Open Forum, Saturday

      e
      It’s Saturday Open Forum.

Hikaru Nakamura just won his fourth tournament in a row. Impressive! Irina Krush made a wonderful comeback to finish with a +1 score at Corus C and Fabiano Caruana convincingly won Corus C by a 2 point margin. Magnus Carlsen shared 1st place with Levon Aronian in Corus A. This duo will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

The USCF President recently issued a statement that he expected the federation to lose at least $100,000 this year then tried to backtrack his statement after facing a series of criticism. The legal woes of the federation is far from over and the legal bills will continue to climb rapidly. I have documented some of the problems here. Nothing changed! The destructive politics that have hindered the USCF for a long time continue.

I am posting LIVE updates of the EB meeting today and tomorrow here and I will post a recap on http://uschess.blogspot.com/ later.

Super Bowl XLII is tomorrow. The incredibly strong Moscow Open starts today and some American players such as Kaidanov, Krush, Pruess and Friedel are there.

What would you like to discuss? The forum is yours.

The New England Patriots cannot be stopped. My final score prediction is Patriots 31, Giants 23.

Pats to win but only by the range of two scores (8-13 points)

It looks like the USCF is ill to too many problems. How are other comparable small game/sports run their associations or federations? I don’t mean the biggies like golf and tennis who have huge professional money but past times like bridge, horesshoes (don’t laugh – its real big in some places), croquet, backgammon, scrabble, etc. Are they as bad?

Other federations don’t seem that much better – UK, Canada and other also have their scandals. Maybe it has something to do with the nature of the game – being one of thought with no dice or luck and no physical exertion. Everyone who plays and plays well thinks they are very smart and know everything, so feel that everyone else should just agree with them! 🙂

I’ve been following this and at this point I could not care less if the USCF goes under. Goichberg will destroy the federation to go after his political opponents.

This new article (see link to uschess.org) by GM Larry Evans regarding the Bobby Fischer’s alledged revised book My “61” Memorable Games is rather fascinating!

        Link

Fischer’s recent last words to Evans:
“YOU WERE MUCH MORE THAN JEDEDIAH, MY FRIEND.”

Susan, I think you’d be better off starting fresh and forming a new ratings organiztion.

The costs could be a lot lower with just a website, than with this ridiculus 20th century dead-tree magazine.

And instead of wasting money giving website contracts to friends, you could make use of the many software consultants (like myself!) who would love to donate time to open, community oriented chess projects. With the USCF, offers of volunteer assistance in these areas are generally ignored.

All you have to do to replace the USCF is offer an alternate rating service, a free tournament listing/calendar service, lower membership fees, and your own illustrious leadership.

GM leadership would be a dream come true for chess in the US, but nobody with the social skills has stepped forwards.

Change from withing is unlikely at this point, unless you are willing to play hardball for a long time, even as it gets worse than it is already is, and more and more lawyers get involved. Are you ready to lawyer up and dive in the fray? I think it sounds like a lot more work, and a lot more expensive, than just starting a replacement federation.

The members have no loyalty, and there is little hope for change, but a strong desire for it.

I agree with ruby. It’s hopeless under Goichberg leadership.

It’s all getting a bit shouty over at http://www.chessdiscussion.com … what’s this $20M lawsuit “hanging over the USCF”?

A lunatic wants to rip off the USCF. So he sues them for $20m.

After all is said and done, the USCF Executive Board will have their titles removed too.

Not quite accurate Oracle. The officers provided for in the by laws remain. And Paul has had his committee liaison duties revoked.

Channing voted with the majority–that’s surprising. What’s going on?

Brilliant move by the board majority. Instead of fixing the finances, they showed the world how pathetic they are.

They will lose their titles once the USCF is no more.

        The Oracle has spoken.

Ever going to actually tally the votes on your open-ended art contest and award this contest? Or will it drag on like the original voting and never end?

I think that, even if it ran somewhat unenthusiastically behind time, they did decide a winner, even if they didn’t publish the final vote-count.

Anon 6:49, you’re an obnoxious moron. The final result was published in multiple places long ago.

And that’s how the winners of the chess art contest was chosen. The fans voted for their top choices.

I think a majority vote of unethical people is obnoxious at best. The new Chess Federation needs bylaws to protect EB membes from collusion.
