Right after Linares I read somewhere that it had passed some kind of deadline and may not count in the next rating list. If true, there is no conspiracy.

Eventually, Anand will be #1. FIDE is just playing by the rules.
FIDE plays by the rules when they want to. They write the rules anyway! In the past, big tournaments like this were squeezed in to make the next ratings list. They “chose” not to do that this time. They’re playing favorites obviously. Why don’t they like Anand?
Anand supported FIDE all through the split caused by Kasparov. Now FIDE is returning the favor and stiffing Anand.
There is still a chance that Linares will be included in the OFFICIAL list to come out tomorrow.

It is so difficult for me to play decent chess while seeing the board. How can anybody play descent blindfold chess, granted they usually play much better when they seem the board? But playing moves up to 40-50 moves seems impossible. I get lost after 4-5 moves. Maybe, I can understand a sevant who sees chess-players. But all of the top chessplayers seem to be able blindfold much better than myself, when I can see the pieces. Why can all the top chess players play blindfold? And how many ratings points (approx) do you lose when playing blindfold chess against someone who can see the board??

Susan, I think that Vishy is simply frustrated right now. He waited for this moment for 12 years – after Garry had retired, he thought that he’ll finally be the World’s #1, but then came Topalov. Now, when he finally deserved to be on the top of the list, FIDE employs its “dirty tricks”.
Linares had always been counted for the April list, even after it passed the so called “dead line”, so what’s the problem now?
Now if Topalov will play better than Anand in Sofia, Anand’s dream will sneak away once again…

Prior to the start of the Linares tournament the FIDE stated that results had to be in by Feb. 28 – which was before the end of the Linares.
I just think that FIDE has to mature a LOT MORE as an international sports body. Tennis and Golf update their rankings after every tournament (which is every day basically). FIDE thinks that its rating system is too elitist or perhaps too secretive. Well, I have a C++ program to calculate out the ratings after every competition, for all players (it can also do multiple tournaments). So, either way, I am not affected. But, would be nice to have updates once a week, there should be a system for arbiters to turn results in online. All it needs is, Ro, Rc, n, W – for every player for a tournament. Not very hard. They can start with a simple email system before they can get a professional online database going.
Topolov is the number one player in the world and I bet Kramnik will be the next one. As it should be they played for the World Championship!

a) The GM title is awarded for life. It cannot be revoked. FIDE or Wolverine or George Bush do not have the power to ‘strip’ anyone of a title.
b) I knew some ordinary level GMs 30 years ago. They did not play any better than ordinary level GM today.
c) There is no evidence of rating inflation in terms of chess strength. You need to know a lot more about chess to get any particular rating today.
d) A GM is a very strong player. I notice a big difference between GM and IM. It is a title of recognition, no need to be a top-10 title. There are millions of PhDs after all.
e) It’s so funny, Wolverine, that you have no power. Just think about it, none, nil.

you have to be out of your mind to think the ratings arn’t inflated. its not about being a dictator its about whats fair. ask any chess grandmaster about the ratings inflation. that elo points have risen 100-150 every 10-15 years. the grandmasters 30 years ago were far better than the other players they played. the grandmaster today isnt as far ahead of the players he plays as the grandmasters of 30 years ago. comparing the older grandmasters to todays grandmasters is a meaningless argument. its like saying i knew some ordinary tennis players 30 years ago that are about the same level as some elite tennis players today. well obviously that could be true but who cares!! the players have gotten better that happens in everything. you dont compare players from one era to another. you compare them to the players they played during there own era. wheres the logic in your argument. i fail to find one logical argument in anything youve said. you knew some ordinary GM’s 30 years ago then name them. dont just throw out something without backing it up with names. what do phd’s have to do with chess grandmasters??? why dont you continue that kind of reasoning and compare the grandmaster title with being able to eat 50 hamburgers in 15 minutes.im sure theres about 2 million people that can do that but big deal its not even related to whats being said. stick to the topic. i never said i could do anything about it. im making a point about the ratings inflation. whoever you are your living in a fantasy world thinking there hasnt been any elo inflation. there are 39 players right now that have broken 2700 elo.over 30 years ago there was only 2 players that had broken 2700 elo. 30 years ago there was maybe 250 grandmasters now there probaly over 2500. how can you even argue the facts??? your completly insane. go back to the little shit hole you crawled from buddy because your arguments are based on nothing.
