Chess for Girls, Lubbock, Saturday Open Forum, Susan Polgar Foundation, Texas Tech, TTU

The biggest chess news of the week is the passing of former world champion Vasily Smyslov (March 24, 1921 – March 27, 2010). He was a magnificent player and make chess looks effortless.

The 2010 Russian Team Champs just got underway. There are many strong players such as: Boris Gelfand, Sergey Karjakin, Vassily Ivanchuk, Peter Svidler, Alexander Grischuk, Wang Yue, Pavel Eljanov, Dmitry Jakovenko, Ruslan Ponomariov, Alexander Motylev, and Ian Nepomniachtchi, etc. There are also strong players on the women’s side such as: Antoaneta Stefanova, Natalia Zhukova, Anna Muzychuk, Natalia Pogonina, Xue Zhao, Anna Ushenina, Viktorija Cmilyte, and Monika Socko, etc.

After consulting with board members of the Susan Polgar Foundation and members of former USCF Polgar Committee, we have decided to improve the format of the Susan Polgar National Invitational for Girls. The event with the new format will take place on July 25-30 at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Information about the Susan Polgar Girl’s Invitational can be found here: https://chessdailynews.com/the-all-new-susan-polgar-girls-invitational/. Full regulations will be published shortly.

It’s Saturday Open Forum. The forum is yours. What would you like to discuss?

        Dear Susan,

I have been playing chess since 1972. I love this game.

And I admire greatly your work for the betterment of chess. Ingratitude is rampant in the USCF, and corruption seems to be the cause…

I just want you to know that I and many other chess lovers hold you and your work in high regard.

May you achieve success in all your endeavors!

I always support you 100% Susan. I hope the USCF drops dead and a new federation without all the problems will arise from the ashes.

I will continue to look for you to become President of the Chess Federation of the USA. Chess really needs your leadership.

And always remember. You have tremendous support among real chess players.
