The U.S. Women’s Championship and the U.S. Junior Championship are about to get underway. Two Susan Polgar National Invitational for Girls former co-champions, Alisa Melekhina and Abby Marshall are squaring off on the women’s side while 2 past participants of the SPICE events, Ray Robson and Darwin Yang are in the other event.

Jon Ludvig Hammer is rocking in Greece at the Greek League Championship with a performance over 3,000!

The FIDE election is getting very hot with incumbent President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov leading with the support from 64 nations so far. But Anatoly Karpov, his team, the United States Chess Federation are not giving up too easily. They have filed a gigantic lawsuit against their opponents in Switzerland, hoping to disqualify the other ticket.

I would imagine, however, that the mindset one develops as a lawyer could make him/her a very good chess player! Gata Kamsky, for example.

As to Jon Ludvig Hammer, be aware that Simen Agdestein is his chess-teacher until recently, as well as the chess-teacher of Magnus Carlsen.
And there are a couple more players to come from Simen Agdestein next year.

        Hi Susan,

Just wondering if you will be providing analysis and commentary for any games in the 2010 U.S. Women’s Chess Championship at your blog? Do you have a favorite? How do you think Foisor will do?
