MANILA, Philippines – Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Wesley So settled for his fourth consecutive draw in the 4th round of the 72nd Corus International Chess Championship at the De Moriaan Community Centre in Wijk Aan Zee, Netherlands on Tuesday.

The 16-year-old Bacoor, Cavite native, who was defending the black pieces, ended his game into a draw against Indian GM Parimarjan Negi after 37 moves of Sicilian Paulsen.

“Malaking tulong rest day mamaya (Wednesday) para makapagpahinga si Wesley,” said 1996 RP junior champion National Master (NM) Roberto Suelo, Jr., the first coach of So.

Wednesday is the rest day for the Corus tournament participants. So is entered in the Corus B division.

In Thursday’s 5th round, So will employ the advantageous white pieces against another Indian ace, GM Pentala Harikrishna.

So, the 2009 Corus C group champion, tallied a total of 2 points. Negi, top seed German GM Arkadij Naiditsch, former World Championships finalist Romanian GM Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu and Finnish GM Tomi Nyback also had 2 points at the end of Round 4.

So’s stint in the Netherlands is being supported by Filway Marketing Inc. CEO/President Hector “Chito” Tagaysay and National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) president/chairman Prospero “Butch” Pichay, Jr. – by Marlon Bernardino
