      South Dakota Girls Chess Championship winners announced

      The South Dakota Girls Chess Championship was held Saturday at Grandview Elementary in Rapid City, pairing off some of the top girl chess players in the state.

      The results are:

      K-3 Individual: 1. (tie) Maria Bunkers, Grandview Elementary and Emily Bachwich, Grandview Elementary; 3. Emily Poppe, Grandview Elementary; 4. Chloe Sand, Grandview Elementary

      K-3 First Place Team: Grandview Elementary

      K-5 Individual: 1. Beth Schlosser, Grandview Elementary; 2. Lauren Loos, Grandview Elementary; 3. Mariah Schlosser, Grandview Elementary; 4. Madison Tumas, Grandview Elementary

      K-5 First Place Team: Grandview Elementary

      K-12 Individual: 1. Kaitlynn Loos, South Middle School; 2. Rachel Kostaneski, Central High School; 3. Madalyn Bunkers, South Middle School; 4. Katrina Mellegard, South Middle School; 5. Katelyn Troastle, Stevens High School. (Kaitlynn Loos also won the opportunity to attend the Susan Polgar National Girls Chess Championship in Lubbock, Texas, in August.)

      K-12 First Place Team: South Middle School

        It’s good to hear that South Dakota has a
        girl’s chess championship.

        Once a year, the San Francisco bay area also has an all girl’s/women’s championship too!
