Spartak Vidnoe wins Russian Team Cup

      Russian Club Cup, Spartak Vidnoe

      Russian Team Cup

In the Women’s League, the leaders from Spartak Vidnoe lost their match to a Moscow team by a minimal margin, but nevertheless took the gold medals.

Their rivals from Krasnoturinsk made four quick draws with Economist 1. (in 5, 10, 12 and 11 moves). In the Russian leagues, teams are fighting hard not only for the medals, but also for the qualification to the European Cup, which can be quite essential.

      Probably these practical considerations prevailed.

      Final standings:

      1. Spartak Vidnoe – 11 (18)
      2. Krasnoturinsk – 11 (17)
      3. Economist 1 – 10 (18½)
      4. St Petersburg Fed – 9 (16)
      (8 teams).

      Best ELO performances:

      T.Kosintseva (Spartak) – 2750 (6/7)
      A.Muzychuk (Krasn-sk) – 2706 (5/6)
      Zhao Xue (Economist1) – 2655 (5½/7)

It is really puzzling why a team (AVS Krasnotorinsk)would it effect “tank” by arranging 4 quick draws when only trailing by a point (especially when the #4 board had a 116 ELO rating advantage!) Talk about “throwing in the towel” too early – those quick draws, DISGRACEFUL!!
