SINGAPORE – Touted as the founding father of sports marketing, Mr Patrick Nally has also fine-tuned the commercial workings of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) among other international sporting bodies.

Now, the 64-year-old Briton has set his sights on mind sports, with Singapore as a key base.

Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of Mind Sports Partners (MSP) and Dentsu Sports Asia, Mr Nally, who is the managing director of MSP, said: “We’re in talks with the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) to set up national federations for mind sports that do not exist, then at hosting a continental federation here in Singapore … with a view to host a regional tournament, then a major event here in the near future.”

Chess, draughts, go (or Weiqi as it is known here) and contract bridge are the four games under the umbrella of the International Mind Sports Association, and the MSP have been tasked to promote the four disciplines in Asia, with Singapore as its base. Chinese chess and duplicate poker are likely to be added in future.
